it's a simple hardware issue. They didn't make older iPhones powerful enough to run Airplay because they didn't have enough battery power at the time.
Mobile tech changes really quickly, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that older models aren't supported. And this is by no means exclusive to Apple. It just seems like Apple's worse for it because they do more product refreshes and advance their software faster than other companies. Can't really blame them for moving forward.

If I purchased mobileme my phone would be powerful enough to support it.
Is the free version that iphone4 users are receiving more powerful than the paid version for 3gs users? I doubt it.
If it truly was an issue of technology upgrading too quick that my phone simply couldn't run/handle the load then I would understand. This is simply "oh sorry your phone is more than one year old, you haven't gave us $700 this year. What have you done for me lately"

He's talking about AirPlay, you're talking about Find My iPhone (MobileMe). Two completely different things that have nothing in common.
In actuality, you're both right. Older phones can't run the tech required for AirPlay (his point), and people with older phones not getting Find My iPhone for free are getting screwed (your point).

No, you can do it on the web. The app is pretty useless if it's on the phone that you lost.

I wouldn't worry too much. It took me a few minutes to figure it out myself.

I've been seeing people claiming that you can only make 3 mobile me accounts per device. So anyone with an iPad or iPhone 4 be warned. Even if you delete the account off the phone it still tracks the number you have created and limits you to 3.

So I've dropped a few calls now by accidently moving my finger over the "spot" on my new iPhone 4. Is Steve Jobs still handing out free bumpers, and if so, how do I go about getting one?

I think you just need to call Applecare.
Anyone else get the disappearing music and video bug? If you do, plug your phone back in and go to the phone on the left hand side and play a song from the phone. Sync again and it should be back when you disconnect.

Download the application called Case Program in the Apple store. It's a free download and is the step-by-step process on how to get your bumper.

The free bumper program is over.
If you're having issues with your phone, take advantage of Apple's warranty service. Bring it to either one of the two Apple Retail Stores in Calgary, or call 1-800-MY-APPLE.

I think several of you missed my post. Getting the free Find My iPhone is not restricted to 4's or iPads, only the activation is. If you know somebody with either one you can set up your account through them and use it on your older iDevice.
