Well put. The only real difference is that some lakes are wetter than others

What Apple should be held to account for is not that vulnerabilities exist, but that they often do not demonstrate leadership in responsiveness, time to resolution, and openness in their disclosures. All companies should be held to a higher standard in this regard though, Apple is hardly alone. I wouldn’t even put Apple near the top of the heap in this regard; they have a long way to go on the security management front.

Found a new annoyance on the iPad today...no way to set or change the colour of each of your calendars. I would be ok with this except that the two colours it chose for my MobileMe and Exchange accounts are blue and purple, two colours I struggle with as someone who is colour blind, so it's almost impossible to tell them apart.

Hopefully they address this in iOS 4, it's more annoying than having to hit the little buttons rather than flip pages to scroll through the weeks.

Well, the guy that found and reported the AT&T vulnerability has now been arrested.

That's a good point. I'd suggest contacting Apple support to bring it up with them.

Here's the guy Gawker paid off for the exclusive on the AT&T hack, and the guy y'all have been quoting all this time:

Quote:
Before y'all get in an uproar about "white hacker this" and "Police State that," let's keep in mind that this Andrew Auernheimer character (a.k.a. "Weev") is one unsavory dude (not to mention a raving anti-Semite): check out this New York Times piece on Internet Trolls if you don't believe us. After all, it's not really a stretch that law enforcement might be after someone who's in possession of ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, and various other pharmaceuticals.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/a...dude-detained/

Quote:
I first met Weev in an online chat room that I visited while staying at Fortuny’s house. “I hack, I ruin, I make piles of money,” he boasted. “I make people afraid for their lives.” On the phone that night, Weev displayed a misanthropy far harsher than Fortuny’s. “Trolling is basically Internet eugenics,” he said, his voice pitching up like a jet engine on the runway. “I want everyone off the Internet. Bloggers are filth. They need to be destroyed. Blogging gives the illusion of participation to a bunch of ######s. . . . We need to put these people in the oven!”

I listened for a few more minutes as Weev held forth on the Federal Reserve and about Jews. Unlike Fortuny, he made no attempt to reconcile his trolling with conventional social norms.
Quote:
Zeno of Elea, Socrates and Jesus, Weev said, are his all-time favorite trolls. He also identifies with Coyote and Loki, the trickster gods, and especially with Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction. “Loki was a hacker. The other gods feared him, but they needed his tools.”
Quote:
Weev asked if I would attribute his comments to Memphis Two, the handle he used to troll Kathy Sierra, a blogger. Inspired by her touchy response to online commenters, Weev said he “dropped docs” on Sierra, posting a fabricated narrative of her career alongside her real Social Security number and address. This was part of a larger trolling campaign against Sierra, one that culminated in death threats.

On a completely different note.

Which iPad should I get?

Is 32 GB sufficient for size? Is 16 GB enough or will I completely regret that 6 months down the road?

I'm thinking of the 32GB wifi only version right now.

I was contemplating the 3G version only because I figured it'd be easier to sell later down the road, or is this completely wrong?

I think the 32 gig will be enough for most users. On mine I have 6 albums (not using it for much related to music), the entire 3rd season of chuck, 5 movies, apps, and about 1 gig of photos. I am currently sitting at 50% capacity, so I'd say a full 32 gig iPad could have 2 full seasons of a show, 10 movies and a couple thousand photos. If that doesn't seem like enough, look to the 64 gig.

can anyone with an iPad 3G tell me how well (or if) watching the world cup on CBC.ca works?

We are looking at a camping vacation, and want to be able to watch the world cup.

It looks like the new iTunes release solves my PDF question.

- Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4

I love that clippy is on the ATM.

To anybody (mainly FanIn80) using the PS3 media server to stream videos to the PS3, do you stream wirelessly or wired? I don't understand how I can stream anything in full quality to my iPad using AirVideo but as trying to do the same on my ps3 is so choppy and slow. I'm going to try a wired connection this week to see if that'll help.

I used a wired connection. I also copy movies to my PS3 before I watch them for the most part. I don't want any lag. Long movies take about 15 minutes.

I was streaming everything wirelessly. Worked like a charm!

Which router do you have? I went through a bunch of d-links and lynksys ones (some in the $150-$200 range) before settling on the Airport Extreme. Haven't looked back, and haven't had any issues since.

I can download off Usenet at 1.5mbs, while streaming a ~2GB movie to my xbox and doing my homework on line... all wirelessly without any hitches or annoyances. If you're having issues, and you're putting your local wireless adapter through less stress than I am, then you should keep digging. Either swap your router for an Airport or, if you already have one, start fiddling with your settings or something. My stuff is all pretty much default, though. Actually, one thing I didn't mention is I'm connecting over the 5Ghz network, not the 2.4. It won't do anything for speed, but it helps cut down on interference from other devices.

(I don't have a ps3 anymore, so I'm talking about my xbox... but I did the same thing with my old ps3 and PS3 Media Server.)

I'm currently on a Linksys ($150 price range). It's been pretty solid, but it's not flawless. My next router will be an extreme. Interesting you mentioned interference ... my microwave cuts out my wifi.

Unrelated: Perhaps the worst things I've done since I've gotten the iPad was get Uno for my wife. I may have to buy her one just so I can get mine back.

do you run your airport with a split 5ghz network? or just the one where the device will connect to whichever it can.

my setup involves a dual band AE being extended in the basement by a single band AE (so this one only does 2.4ghz).

I wonder if i should be using the single band as the router and the dual band as the extender?

I have it set to run both at the same time. My laptop and xbox connect over the 5 and my iPhone over the 2.4.

...incidentally, I know the new iPhone is getting 802.11n, but I wonder if it will be dual-band?

Edit: Never mind. From the specs sheet: 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only). That sucks.
