Moot point*. I've been corrected for that countless times myself.

There are pieces there. Helenius and Wahlberg being the two that stick out as being pieces Conroy would probably love.
I'd have Kulich above Wahlberg personally...

I mean you could say the same about Huberdeau here.

I've liked Kulich before for sure.

I just looked into Wahlberg, it looks like there could be something there. Came on late in his draft year by some reports. Dude seems to be trending in all the ways you'd want.

As a 19 year old, 6'04" centre he has 8 pts in 12 games in Rochester.

He's got a career high 23 goals and 65 points.
Guys who are as one dimensional as he is, need to be better than that at that one dimension.

I know Krebs has not had the production many expected of him, but he at least seems decent on faceoffs. If there was a deal to be had with Buffalo, I'd see if you could get him at a discount (not as a main piece of course). Maybe going home and a change of scenery could spark him.

Ditto.

Cooley is earning himself a promotion, and Krebs has upside - but even if he doesn't realize it, he's still a bottom-6 player that is the right age (23).

My guess is Vladar offers are right 3rd/4th and Conroy is waiting for a team to cave and offer a 2nd

Re: Zegras, if the price is low then why not?

He's young, has high end talent and needs a changd of scenery.

Way too many fans give up on young prospects far too early. Also we tend to be so risk averse as a fanbase.

See recent sure busts / not productive players Lafrenière, Necas, Sharangovich as just a few that no one wanted.

Heck see Bennett and Lindholm as players that we either gave up on (Benny) or acquired that fans were convinced were 3rd liners (Lindy).

I remember when Johnny wasn't good enough and needed to be moved, Tkachuck sucked because the Canadian bubble was a sure indication of his real talent, Monahan was beoken and lazy... on and on.

We barely have high takent players that even want to play here. So a chance to buy low and develop, yeah id love to see that.

Why the hell are we taking about blowing assets for a young D man that will cost a mint? We need centres, our D is pretty well stocked.

We still need both. Our defence is probably a strength - but not much of one. It still lacks top-end talent outside of Parekh, and Parekh is far from a sure thing.

If David Jiricek could be had for "now" pieces, you still very much go that way and worry about drafting your own centres.

Weegar (6') - Jiricek (6'4)
Bahl (6'6) - Parekh (6'0)
Grushnikov (6'1) - Brzustweicz (6'0)

With Morin, Poirier, Solovyov, Kuznetsov as depth pressure.

That's the beginning of something.

(this is assuming Jiricek could be had for "now" pieces off our current roster like Andersson)

To BUF: Vladar
To CGY: Krebs

To CBJ: Andersson
To CGY: Jiricek (+?)

I get what your saying but I think given his caliber and age, we could still use a player like him if the value is right.

Say they're going further down the rebuild route and commit to trade Rasmus.

Rasmus for 1st + helenius

Devils 1st + 2nd for jiricek.

Conroy has a lot of time to see how things play out with Cooley. Is this just a fast start or has he finally figured it out?

That gives Vladar more time to make a statement. He’s playing for his next contract.

So Flames are in perfect position to maximize value in any Vladar deal. I don't see more than a 3rd or equivalent but I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

We did it with Berra. Maybe Avs will give up a 2nd for Vladar.

Caps don’t have the cap space for Kuzmenko.

Plus they are playing great, are scoring tons, but are having trouble keeping the puck out of the net.

Kuzmenko likely the last guy they would want.

This team will need difference makers - and as many of them - as possible. It isn't just a need for Cs.

I would say that the Flames are looking good only in net.

I have lots of faith in Vladar, but there really is only one young blue-chipper in the pipeline. I would be all over Jiricek if he were made available.

As for my thoughts on Vladar - he has been great. He was a very good up and coming goalie when Calgary acquired him. He played under Sutter who was hell for goalies apparently, and played two straight seasons injured. He has been very good this year, and I feel he stole two games so far, and has been very good in most.

I would most certainly NOT give him away for peanuts. I don't care about the goalie market, or about Cooley looking great in the AHL too. There will eventually be a good offer for Vladar, and I bet that he will be a very steady starter. If someone offers something good for Cooley, I would also gladly keep and re-sign Vladar, and run with that tandem for the next few seasons. I think he is really settling into a regular routine here for a change. it isn't easy playing as a backup and experiencing that kind of inconsistency.

I think Vladar right now is proving to us all that he can do the job. I would say that Wolf is the future as of now, and there are certainly some interesting backup/tandem options in the pipeline already even ignoring Cooley, but Vladar is very deserving of our praise and confidence in him. I stopped caring who starts after probably game 6. They have both been very good and more than good enough to allow Calgary to win games. I actually really like both Wolf and Vladar a lot.

lol, you're not getting Jiricek for Vladar and Sandman, just because you saw a eastern European prospect we don't need to trade or draft for because they had a second assist off their helmet, but you liked the way the skated, you overrate prospects.
