They could easily have had 4 points in what is probably the toughest group overall

I called it at the start of the thread, unfortunately (though I thought Belgium would be advancing, not Morocco)
however Canada surprised me with how strong they came out against Belgium, and they played well in the second half today but they were terrible at other times and were easily overpowered. People can talk about XG or not getting enough injury time, but the only thing that matters is goals. They didn't create enough, and didn't take the chances they had and ultimately paid the price by conceding through some awful mistakes.

I'm interested to see how they (hopefully) progress from here and yes Sherm I do hope to catch more of them between now and 2026.

I’m worried about all the self back patting going on with the media, staff and players. Seems like only De Guzman is offering a sober analysis.

The reality is they were 0-3 and -5 GD.

There were spells (especially vs Belgium) where they were good, but ultimately it was a very disappointing showing. Overall, they should NOT be pleased with the performance.

Kevin Kilbane just said it best - Herdman was thinking he can get a top-level manager job in Europe before the World Cup. Now because of Canada's showing his stock decreased and he is now "stuck" with Canada....

It's not letting me quote you CroFlames, but I think you're being overly critical.

We had one bad game out of three really, in what's likely the toughest group in the whole tournament.

Yes, you would have loved to see some actual results, and the players will be disappointed in that, but you have to look at the way we played, not just the results.

It showed we've got a ways to go, but we've got some really good, really young pieces in place. Just need to keep building on it.

Buchanan looked really good to me, a few overly aggressive plays but did a generally great job of walking that line and was probably the highest energy/most intense player start to finish in every match

Canada should absolutely be proud. They played much better than I expected and played an entertaining style in a really tough group. It takes time to develop a football program and you just need experience playing at the top level, and I think this WC and the next are going to go a long way to grow the sport here. Coupled with the rise and quality of the domestic leagues and I can see the sport growing a lot in popularity here.

Belgium Manager Martinez parts ways.

No surprise there.

For the record I don't think Group F was particularly the toughest group. As a pot 4 team, Canada would've had a tough time in every group, except being drawn in Qatar's group.

I've never put much stock in FIFA rankings. Belgium are nowhere near being the second best team in the world.

Gnabry opening the scoring.

Which is great because Costa Rica are essentially playing 5-4-1. That early goal is going to be important to opening this game up, even just a little.

The Costa Ricans know that when the Germans cross the ball into the box their CBs need to clear it!

They're just letting Germany bang balls into the box.

Lol...Rudger is playing against his Landlord. He rents Keylor Navas' house in Madrid.

That is odd but funny.

Haha that's a fun bit of trivia from the commentator. Navas and Rudiger are landlord and tenant respectively. Rudiger rents Navas' house in Madrid.

Edit: d'oh

I've seen this strategy before, its called "Bore the Germans into doing something stupid."

Because at the moment this is slow, plodding and paceless. It is Bus Parking for the ages.

But the Ref really needs to do something about this Costa Rican defending from corners, I understand the positioning and jostling and general s###housery, but the Costa Ricans are full on ridiculous.
