Feels like anything between 7 and 7.5 is a compromise for both sides with anything outside of that range being a home run for the applicable party.
|
If we're assuming that the 6.75 figure is the Flames opening offer - shifting a quarter of a million the other way when the other side has to give up way more, then yes I would consider that a massive win.

I'm assuming that after the contract has been signed there will be an inaugural 'fist-bump' between Johnny and Brad and all will be forgiven.
And then sometime later Johnny's agent will be brought to the 'Dome in a non-descript white GMC Panel-Van without windows, blindfolded with his hands, feet and mouth duct-taped.
What happens from there is anyone's guess, but honestly, if the dollars are anywhere below $8M I dont think this needed to be this hard.

I guess it depends upon how much stake we would want to put into those rumours. I can't imagine that there was any serious hope from the Flames end that Gaudreau's contract would actually fall under a supposed "Gio cap."

I dont know, I guess I always figured it would be in that $7M range, I never put much stock in the 'Gio cap.'
I personally feel that Monohan took a hell of a discount.

Happy for some good news. I am skeptical it will be an 8 year deal, but that's what I'm hoping for.

Heard a rumor this morning from a coworker who claims to play hockey with a trainer. Kind of 'orange juliusy" so I don't think I should post it but it is in line with what Francis said in his column.

Wouldn't a trainer on the team be as in the know as any of us are?
Maybe the trainer read Francis' column and then passed it on?

8 x 7.2 making him the highest paid RFA ever with fair value for the 3 UFA years he gives up
or 7 x 6.99 still making him the highest paid RFA ever but keeping the number under 7 and keeping Johnny under 30 for his next contract.

Do you mean between gaudreauvertime and the board?
Because I don't think Johnny and the Flames need to mend any fences.

$6.5M for the first 6 seasons, then $8.5M for the last two. $7M aav for 8 years. Meets the Gio cap for the 6 seasons the captain has on his deal
