Backlund is not average defensively.

I would say he has improved enough that he should be considered average now.

But realized this is the AHL thread so will step back before the whiners chime in about it being OT.

I don't like the way the Heat play in the offensive zone. On odd man rushes, players will enter the zone parallel to each other and make it impossible to complete a pass.

When they lose the puck after having some pressure in the zone, they all give up and skate back to the blueline. They don't try to get the puck back short of intercepting a pass that's going out of a zone.

Just very weird. No wonder they can't score.

Heat shutout 3-0.

I'm just going to stop caring because the more I care the worse my teams do.

Ferland's done for the season. So disappointing. The guy was bursting with confidence when he went down.

Probably the prospect that's been the most fun to watch other than Granlund this season. Now the big question: can he come back from this major injury?

Given the way he has faced adversity in the past, I think he can.

They led the league in goals scored until Byron and Jones were called up and Ferland got hurt

So, I was curious how much our roster has changed from opening night to the half way point.

We really have lost a huge piece of our core and while we are not quite at the OKC Barons level where they are at transaction 99, this is a different looking team on Forward then when we started the season and even up until mid November. Our Defence has been rather stable and goaltending steady due to Ortio's amazing play.

So the big game against the Grand Rapid Griffins is tonight, already started.

Couple minutes left in the 1st and the Heat lead 2-1 from goals by Carter Bancks and Max Reinhart.

Shots on Goal: 14-13 Griffins

Reinhart already with a two point night as he assisted on the Bancks goal.

Baertschi had a goal called off. Nothing going right for him.

Reinhart has been playing at over a point/game clip for a while now

Reinhart is very quietly one of the best Heat players right now. He's not flashy, he's not loud but he's getting the job done consistently.

Hopefully, he should be the next call up.

Just curious as I am not old enough to remember Paul Reinhart, but what style did he play? Is he more Max or more Griffin?

Yeah, since a pointless three game stretch at the end of November, he's put up 5g-13a-18p in his last 16 games.

EDIT:

Last season Max had 7g-14a-21p in 67 games.

He's only 3 points away from putting up the same amount of points he had ALL last season, in just his last 15 and 2/3rds games.

That's some offensive growth.

He was a short, stocky, very smart, smooth skating offensive defenseman.
