Any CPers doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer this weekend?

If so, does anyone want to meet up?

it's a Specialized Rockhopper Comp 29R..I paid 'competition' rate...just under $1100.00

the fork isn't terrible, in fact for what I do it's fine, it locks out for roadwork and it soaked up the trail bumps and kept the wheel down when I banging through the corners...I just want a bit better one

I really like the Ground Control tires, smooth, fast and more than enough sidewall blocks to make cornering feel really controlled.

I'd recommend it for a person looking for a solid mid-range 29'r

Whoa! 60psi is pretty off the charts for tire pressures.

I had my pump gauge break on me without realizing and was riding on tires that were up around 45psi, and I noticed I was getting bounced all over the place and felt no confidence on decents. When I realized the pressure was too high and dropped them, everything felt good again.

With tubes I was running about 35psi (I'm about 200lbs) and after going tubeless I ride about 28psi in the rear and 26psi in the front. I find I have way better control on fast decants, and landings are way softer. I've never flatted on my current bike, it's been 3 years and I usually get out to the mountains about twice a week all season long and one or two big biking trips.

You actually roll faster on dirt with lower pressure too believe it or not:

^ interesting article hulk! assuming I am fat Albert the difference does not seem to be as bad (130 v 114) as for non fat Albert.......I think I like my tires so hard because I also use my bike as a commuter rig....next time I head out on the trail, perhaps I'll drop a few psi

I put hockey tape on the back of mine. Fixes the problem.

The enthusiasm and bike-geekery in this thread has rekindled my love of cycling big time. Thanks to you all, btw.

So I just picked up a new toy off pinkbike. Litespeed Ocoee (titanium hardtail, XT grade, hope pro2 hubs, random easton carbon pieces, Fox F-series RLC fork). I may be a bit ambitious but I am planning on doing the Goat Creek doubletrack from Canmore to Banff on Sunday. Apparently, the bridge is still out. Does anyone have experience fording with a bike? Or should I just take legacy? The only other stipulation is that I have a brunch gift certificate at the springs so I can't be covered in muck.

I put a new crankset on my kaitai and the only issue is that the gear shifting apparatus (derailleur?) that is attached to the frame has a metal bracket that the crankset rests against and goes through. The crankset rubs against the derailleur bracket and squeaks; should there be no contact at all between the crankset and anything else or should I put dry Teflon lube on it?

What's the deal with people splicing little gas 2 stroke motors into bikes and puttering around on bike paths? That has to be illegal.

Also - what's everyone's favorite wet lube for chains in the winter? I've been using MEC for the past few years but it gunks up quick into hard to remove waxy deposits.

City bylaws say that it's illegal to ride powered bikes on pathways and that people riding electric assist bikes must be wearing motorcycle grade helmets.

It is. Any bicycle with a combustion engine is illegal. If you get caught its a $520 for no insurance, $500 dollar fine for no motorcycle license and depending on the cop impoundment of the vehicle. Alberta has the same laws regarding MACs except in Alberta ebikers need motorcycle helmets.

I have seen people stopped and fined.

My favorite winter lube is a new chain in spring.

I've found no matter what I use, I get rusty gummy stuff all over, and after riding home in the winter, with no garden hose hooked up, the last thing I'm doing is cleaning my bike.

Last year I injured my knee and my commuter sat in the garage for a couple months. When I went to put the new chain on, I had to smash the old one off the chain ring and rear cog with a hammer because it was so rusted on. The thing stood up by itself!

the only fix is cleaning after every single winter ride. Have a good supply of rags and go to town. I always time my new chain for spring as well.

If you go from Canmore you will have to ford http://www.bikepirate.com/goat-creek/....might want to stay on the spray river trail

Should be no contact.....are you sure you put on the right crankset - earlier this year I ordered a crankset from chain reaction and after getting it on my bike, I found out it was a 9 speed set and my bike was a 10 speed......also you can try adjusting the set screws for your derailleur a quarter turn at a time.....

the front derailleur needs replacing, unfortunately. I think I'm just going to pick up something off kijiji as my bike needs a new front fork, front derailleur and rear cassette. I found incredible deals on my guitar and amp on kijiji so maybe I can find one on a bike. Giving up on this gary fisher, wish I hadn't wasted my 300$ trying to fix it.

Looking on the map, it looks like accessing Spray River requires you to take Goat creek anyways. Legacy pathway it is lol.

You can access spray river from the golf course side, go behind the banff springs hotel. It is a little tricky to find, but it runs parallel to the fire road.
