Blake Griffin's dunk over the car wasn't even that nice. He could have just did a regular dunk and won from all the hype surrounding him.
Dwight Howard's Superman dunk wasn't great either.
McGee had the best two dunks of the night, but they were both in the first round.
Edit: An opinion from Washington... I kind of agree. Griffin's 360 was not a 49. Vince Carter did the same dunk in the All-Star GAME one year. And DeRozan's 44 was better than Griffin's 46. That's said, I didn't think Derozan's 2nd was a 50 either.
I'm hugely in the majority I'm sure, but the dunk competition has evolved into a sideshow. I thought the props are really dumb. Dunks are for flair, but to involve props we'll never see in a game, completely takes away from this. Carter is hands down the best dunker of all time, and I'd just love to see someone do it like he's done. DeRozan should have attempted a dunk over Bargnani.
With how much of a side show the dunk competition has become, really reminds you how amazing the performance by VC was. Not many dunk comps will ever top the electricity in the building and the anticipation to watch him.
I disagree on Blakes car dunk. I thought it was absolutely brilliant. It changed the dunk contest forever.
Not for the athleticism which wasn't really that impressive, but from the marketing standpoint. The guy probably just put another 7 figures in his jeans for doing it. That's brilliant. There are a lot of guys kicking themselves for not trying that before.
He changed the dunk contest forever because from now on we'll see product placement inserted every year.

For me this was the dunk of the competition, but then I'm a purist (and a Raptors fan) who hates anything gimmicky. Granted, everything looks better in slow motion, but this is an absolute thing of beauty.

It's a big move by NY to bring in a guy like 'Melo... but they did sacrifice a lot of their depth here. I don't think they can play with Miami, Boston or Chicago this year.
That said, if those rumors about Chris Paul or D. Williams are remotely true... then we can definitley have that conversation.
Amazing (although not unexpected) how all the starts gravitate to these bigger markets. Must be frustrating for those mid-small markets.. although i guess it is expected.
Wow, the steal for NY is that they did this without giving up Fields, and they actually decreased the amount of salary they have on the book for next year by a few million, despite picking up Billups. Not sure they did enough to make a play for Paul during the offseason. Other than Fields, they've got nothing left to trade to facilitate a sign-and-trade, and they're under the cap for next season by about 6 million, with eight players under contract for next year (assuming Turiaf picks up his player option). That's not enough room to get either Paul or Williams. Probably the only way it works is if either of them pick up their player option, stay for another year, and then jump to the Knicks in the 2012 offseason when Billups' contract is up.
edit: I should mention, I don't mean that this trade is a steal for NY. Just that they kept Fields, which I didn't think they would do. I think this has the potential to be a lose-lose trade.
Personally I think this is an awful trade for the Knicks..... Felton, Chandler, and Gallinari are all fairly young, and are all averaging 15+ ppg for the Knicks this season. Granted it's not like I follow the Knicks, but to pay this much in a trade for a guy who demanded a trade and only wanted to go to one team seems a little ridiculous. Does this even make the Knicks a better team?
I'm stunned that NY only gave up that package when the rumored NJ trade involved Devin Harris, other players and importantly 4 1st round picks. The Nuggets give up Anthony and Chauncey but get back that little? Gallinari is the main guy with Felton being a poor man's PG IMO, so to get back that little asset-wise is just, wow.

The Nets could have offered James, Kobe and 100 first round picks but if Anthony wasn't going to sign an extension there it didn't really matter that much since the Nets wouldn't have made the deal anyways.
The main thing Denver was always going to get out of the deal is a clear indication that they need to rebuild. The 4 1st round picks with Anthony on the Nets and a crazy Russian owner that will do enough to ensure the team is at least decent likely ends up with 4 15-25 type picks that are most often busts in the NBA.
This whole situation seemed like it would end up lose-lose for Denver and who ever got Carmelo and this deal seems exactly like that.
With Anthony the Knicks are at best the 5th best team in the East and not close to the other 4. They have a weaker supporting cast than the Heat with the 3 worst players out each teams "big 3." Anthony is a horrible match with Amare and Chauncey will be great at missing the big shots like he always is, but certainly will be more than willing to take them.

He did but there were no close wins for the Pistons in the series in which he would have made a big shot to win the game. The Pistons lost the game that went into OT that year.
