Sort of an old bump for a sort of tangent, but I found out that at the end of the movie, the CTO that is leaving to do another startup is the one that one of my friends is working with, which is pretty cool. (Adam D’Angelo)
Pretty cool to have your startup be referenced in one of the top movies of the year

Don't know if this has been discussed yet, but Ben Mezrich, the writer who wrote the book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, the non-fiction book the screenplay was based on, was also the one who wrote, Bringing Down the House, the book the movie 21 was based on. There was a lot of talent in this movie from top to bottom, starting with this writer.
He's just finished another book called Sex on the Moon, which is about a heist of moon rocks from the Johnson Space Center. I heard him talking about it and have been meaning to pick it up. Sounds like a great book and he is great at telling stories about very normal people who break through the system, like the previous two books.
It will also be turned into a movie. By Sony pictures I believe.
But yeah, between Fincher, Mezrich, Sorkin, Reznor, and Eisenberg I was very excited when this came out and it didn't disappoint.

Mezrich has written a number of great books, I'll definitely check out his new one. As for this movie, I didn't particularly care for it.

Neither did I really, and I love most Fincher movies. I just don't get the hype. I thought the story was predictable and nothing about the mood of the film invoked any kind of emotion in me. It felt like a made-for-TV movie to me.

The Social Network is the only Fincher movie I like. It was based on a true story so, if you knew anything about facebook, the movie was going to be a bit predictable. I thought the movie did a good job of being entertaining and still lightly asserting that success/money isn't what drives humans. That what actually drives people is the desire to connect with other people. Which is why social networking exists in the first place.

I can certainly get why some people didn't like it. I often have a problem with movies that are based on a true story too. As has been said, sometimes it can really affect the suspense factor and excitement factor.
I just thought this was a well told story with interesting characters. I thought Mezrich, Sorkin, and Fincher did a good job of keeping it from being a pseudo-documentary. Looking forward to the Sex on the Moon adaptation. From what I've heard, it's a fun story and has a lot of opportunity for humour.
