Screen issues are to be expected I think, making LCD panels is never perfect and there'll always be ones that get out with imperfections.. heck it took me 5 tries to get a good replacement for my LCD.

The antenna thing is kind of odd though, might be one of those things that only happens with some people in some circumstances. I'll probably have it in a case anyway.

Maybe these guys all have metal plates in their left hands?

I've been thinking about the cases though. I wonder if they'll have any affect on the antennas? You would have to think that exposed antennas are subject to some sort of external interference... They don't even have a coating on them.

Mind you, I'm no expert on this stuff.

I might have a textbook somewhere about antennas I could pull out lol..

As long as the cases are made of a material that doesn't attenuate the signals significantly (plastic or whatever) then they're fine.. for a device this small the difference between an internal antenna and an external antenna is a 1 mm thick case.

Step aside mere mortal, allow the RF engineer to re-assure you that indeed, the case is effectively invisible to RF. There is always some level of intrinsic impedance to any material, but since it's not grounded metal (Faraday cage), it's largely ineffective.

I'm really surprised that Apple didn't see this happening, although the Engadget test unit wasn't showing the same symptoms was it?

Could it be something specific in some peoples' hands? Like a specific hand lotion that is more conductive?

When holding it in the right had you're still connecting the two antenna with your fingers, but with the left hand it's a shorter path to connect the two.

Path of least resistance. Holding it in the right hand the impedance of your hand between the two antenna's is pretty high, but in the left hand, you bridge the antenna's with the meaty part of your palm and that's not a lot of impedance.

Sounds like the 3.0.1 update (I think) that had my phone go into lock, be unable to get it out unless I rebooted while the device got REALLY hot and my battery died.

One thing I was really hoping for in an OS update for the iPhone is a way to delete a text message from a locked home screen. Drives me nuts that I have to close the text, unlock the phone, go into messages, hit edit, and then delete.

There has to be an easier way (of course without turning off the SM preview because I want to see them - I just want to be able to delete them easily).

You delete all of your text messages?

So you don't get pissed off about having to delete them? You can save up text messages for a week and then clear them by swiping the name of the contact in the list of all your messages.

If you want to make your life easier..

I keep mine in case I refer back to something and I don't care if they stick around..

They're like conversations. Why delete them? I get deleting the individual texts that are separate on other phones, but not the way the iPhone handles them. I have some conversations on my phone that have gone on for months. It's quite handy.

(Not saying anything is wrong with deleting them or anything, just... I don't know. It would feel like deleting all my emails as they come in and I've read them.)

Turns out the yellowish colouring is just the bonding agent Foxconn uses on the glass. It disappears after it dries, and they're shipping them before they've dried properly.

Quote:
Apple is using a bonding agent called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011 to bond the layers of glass. Apparently, Apple (or more likely Foxconn) is shipping these products so quickly that the evaporation process is not complete. However, after one or two days of use, especially with the screen on, will complete the evaporation process and the yellow "blotches" will disappear.

How do I know? I was involved in pitching Z-6011 to Apple.

I had major yellow spots on the bottom corners of the iPhone 4 this morning when I received it (as shown in the other thread) and as of right now they have COMPLETELY faded away. I have no idea what caused this but it happened. So keep an eye on it over the next day or so if you have the issue. . . It just seemed like the more I used the phone today the more it faded. It's really odd but I'll take it.
Although some are reporting that it comes and goes, the majority of people affected have had the yellow disappear completely after proper evaporation.

On the Android phones you can set limits to how big a conversation can get before it starts deleting messages.

Mine is at 200.

Surely you can do that with the iPhone too.

Nope. You can't micro-manage your text messages on the iPhone. I can't even understand why you'd want to.

Well, I like to keep things neat and tidy and really have no need to keep past conversations there. Oh well, guess it's not possible. I'm just someone who likes to delete something after I read it. I see people with 500 messages in their inbox in their email software and it drives me nuts. If you want to save something, create a save box and put it there. If you've read the email, delete it if you don't need it. Just my way of doing things.

You can't or you don't want to? I'd rather not have a conversation history over the course of a year saved on my phone.
