I'm extremely confused as to how anyone could separate from their husband/wife and still live under the same roof. I'd be more likely to move to Guam than live with an ex.

Meh. I fata'd my second wife for months after the marriage breakdown. It all depends on the nature of your relationship and the reason for the split.

Yes. I just didn't want to go through the whole "why post this on a forum" and needed some humour at the moment. No matter how twisted it was.

Yeah, I agree but financial considerations and maybe who owns the house comes down to possession.

If this movie has taught me anything, this situation will end in nothing but pure comedic gold.

Update to this thread...
Got served with divorce papers on New Years Eve!! I was under the impression that we could resolve our differences through mediation but she ended up doing this behind my back. Not sure what my next move should be.
Any suggestions? Reasonable ones?
Thanks,

ouch .
unfortunate time for the family, especially the kids. 2 ways about this, give in, keep it quiet, making it easier on the kids thru this, or make sure you don't get the ___ end of the stick by getting a good lawyer, i would think.
Are your kids old enough to understand what's going on??

Considering the timing and the way she did it behind your back, she clearly doesn't give a crap about you anymore. It's time to get realistic, harden your resolve, and start doing whatever it takes for you to come out with the best possible outcome. I'd start by calling a lawyer.

Could it be possible that it was done on New Year's Eve because that's the end of the year for taxes as well, so you are married for this entire year and not for all next year and it's simple and straightforward for figuring out finances and what-not? I have no idea if this is the case/true/relevant.
Regardless, it's a real ####ty thing to do without warning. There has clearly been a huge communication breakdown, and you are likely better off dealing with this as quickly and painlessly as possible so you and your kids can just move on.

I really don't get it.
What does 'not into you anymore' even mean.
Family, kids.. that should be the priority for any married woman
Most women would be so fortunate to have such a family.

Set her up on a date with me, I'll destroy her confidence and self esteem, destroy her and turn her into a lesbian.
And I'll do it for free.
