Yeah they're a bit better than AAA midget hockey, 2:1 I guess, though I have no idea how good that AAA team is.

But that's a fact, not an opinion. UFA Bisons beat the national women's team handily to the tune of 6-1 every time they play.
EDIT - I stand corrected. Thanks /\ for the info. It's as good as midget.

What, is drinking beer and smoking cigars 'unladylike'? Why is it okay for Anthony Calvillo to get doused in champagne while smoking a cigar on live national television after the Grey Cup, and not okay for the Canadian women's hockey team? Why are these women poor examples for girls while Anthony Calvillo is a great example for boys? They essentially did the same thing.

Unfortunately, it is a fact.
I know the delivery of my message was a little sarcastic, however if I was the captain of Team Canada, I would have got my medals gone to the room, and had my celebration. In my opinion you don't gloat and parade around when you are the favorite, it shows little tact. When you are the top team in any sport, in a sense you are the face of the sport, and you should handle that with dignity and class. World class athletes drinking and smoking cigars on their field of play, in my opinion is neither dignified nor classy.

Sorry. Because the UFA Bisons are better means that the Women's Hockey Gold is not a worthy achievement? Read his post. Boils down to saying that their gold medal isn't really worth much because they lose to midget hockey teams.

So young men are better at playing hockey than young women...so frickin what?
What does that have to do with what the girls accomplished...against girls?
Anything to denigrate them I guess.

So what would have happened if the Americans had won this game? Half of the people complaining that the gold doesn't mean anything would be complaining about the fact that the Canadian women's team had lost to the Americans.

LOL...yes SC champions NEVER do that!!!
And i would think one needs an audience to have a "parade". Since there was no one in the stands...that is a false accusation.

Amen. The argument that a AAA boys team beats the Women's National Team is so irrelevant to this thread.
I understand the argument whether Women's Hockey is widespread enough to be an Olympic sport, and frankly is worthy of debate, but even that's irrelevant to whether the team should have celebrated the way the did.
Grip people.

To be honest with you, I wouldnt have complained bout them getting silver at all. I am glad the gals won, good for them, however, in reality, it didnt matter to me. The Americans were just as worthy of winning the gold in this tournament, based on the competition.

Then you must keep your daughter locked in a lead box because this 'celebration' was about as tarnished as the first 3 seconds of a Go Daddy.com commercial.
Maybe YOU will always think of this celebration. Says more about you than it does them.
I will think back about yet another GOLD MEDAL for Canada.
Like, really, you think having a beer with your teammates is so unflattering that you wouldn't want your daughter to become an olympic gold medalist?

If this is what we focus on after the win then I am embarrassed.
It wasn't appropriate, but I get the sense that the general hate of women's hockey is bringing a lot of this on.
Honestly, if the Americans had won and did the same thing I wouldn't have been upset at all. It just seems so trivial.

It IS extremely trivial. Just brings out the sillyness in a few posters that are obviously bored at work today and feel like being "outraged" at absolutely nothing.

|
They were discussing this on CTV this morning and James Duthie pointed out that since 1999, Women's luge has been absolutely dominated by the Germans. In 2001, the bronze was won by an Austrian. Otherwise, every Women's Luge World Cup medal has been won by a German, going back 12 seasons.
Table Tennis is another example. At the last Olympics, the only medals that weren't won by China were the silver and bronze in the team events because China only had one team.

Yeah but they have worked their butts off for at least 4 years to win that 1 game.
