I agree, one of the best games I've seen in a long time.

So glad the underdogs won this one, they really worked for it against what is expected to be a top Russian team, all after playing the night before.

Great game, hate to say it but far more entertaining than the earlier game this evening.

Loved the result. Great for the Slovaks!. Great hockey and like they said I wonder why the Russian coach kept going back to Ovechkin in the shootout. Not like the rest of the guys are a bunch of stiffs.

Man that was nice, on a move I used to do in games. Gratz Slovakia on knocking off a potential 9 point team.

now we just need the Czech's + Sweden and Finland to either lose a game, or have their game go to OT

so Canada can get the number 1 seed

If Russia beats the Czechs, that group will have no perfect teams so then we'd probably get the 2nd seed behind Sweden/Finland (whoever wins their game).

unless that game goes to OT

than we probly get 1st because of goal differential, that 8-0 win could help a lot

A very entertaining allstar tournament. It is fun to watch. I like the idea of the three points awarded for a regulation win and only two for an OT\SO win and one for the OT\SO loss. Bettman should make this happen for the NHL standings.

Don't like that idea flying in a 82 game season. Don't like to penalize teams for battling hard enough to push the game to OT, as well still rewarding losing in OT.

I can fly with it in a short round robin tournament though.

Having attended both of Slovakia's games so far, I'd agree that they are an honest to goodness dark horse medal candidate. Their game with the Czechs could have easily gone either way (and was a blast to watch, by the way - far more flags, cheering and general fan craziness in the Czech/Slovak game than in, say, the USA/Swiss game).

But, Pavol Demitra as the game breaker or a team with Gaborik and Hossa? Who'da thunk it.

(And, the Russians had better take the Czech's very seriously. Jagr showed in the Slovakia game that, despite playing outside the NHL for two years, he can still play . . . and murder you on a turnover.)

and if Demitra played for the Canucks like he did for Slovakia it would be nice
Does he even play for the Canucks at all? When did he last play?

he played for about 3 weeks before the olympics, first few weeks he was slow and behind the play. Which was expected because he hadn't played in 8 months

last few games he played though he looked a lot better, and now with Slovakia he is looking great

so hopefully he got his timing/speed back for after the break as well

Teams losing in OT are still rewarded a point in the NHL. Every game in the NHL regular season would be worth three points.
