Sooo, you wanted the apple tablet - to not be a tablet, but rather a laptop?

I am very interested in a kindle or nook, it really all depends on whether this thing competes at all in price point.
Just to clarify I am by no means expecting a 400 dollar iPad. But anything over say 700 and you are no longer competing with e-readers or netbooks.

I can't believe Apple didn't make this a 3G wireless device - or at least the capability to slip a SIM card in. That could have been the killer app for this, but as it stands it looks very underwhelming. Giant iPod Touch is a very good description.
AAPL @ $203 right now.... I would guess the shorts knock this down to <$200?

I will not buy this. I would have though if it had the flip/swivel screen and keyboard.

It has bluetooth and the only reason for bluetooth is for a keyboard.

Because they were probably worried about basterdizing their iPhone sales.

They should've put a dock for an iPhone on it.

The thing is kind of a let down. Basically a ipod touch with a bigger screen and a dumber name.
*edit*
The iBooks thing is pretty neat if you want an ereader, i guess

ALL ABOARD!

A 32gig iPhone 3GS without a contract is $699.
I don't know how they're going to get the price below that. This has the feeling of an Macbook Air. It's small but expensive and doesn't do everything the Macbook does.

If they do price this $900+ then it will all be for not... You can't compare yourself to a netbook then price yourself at 3 times as much.
remember that so far it doesn't have access to 3G network so it is more comparable to the ~$300 iPod Touch than an iPhone 3GS

Is there any indication about iPhone 4.0 being announced or is this event for the iPad?

As a non mac fanboy, I dont think that is a fair comparison.
Part of the reason for non contract phone pricing is to discourage people from buying a non contract phone.
I wonder if this would have been a bigger deal had they not released the touch - I always wondered what the market was that for with a small screen.
