If you don't consider yourself a 'movie snob', why bother with TWBB? reading a review or two should tell you it's not your kind of movie and to take a pass. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's crap or that other people only pretend to like it.

I didn't read any reviews before I saw the movie, the little I knew about it I liked, I think the premise was promising.
Another thing that left me dissapointed was missed opportunities to expand the story, to create a conflict.
Plainview vs Eli - great potential for conflict after Daniel didn't keep his promises, it didn't go anywhere (other than the mud feeding time). Years later Eli comes to visit him asking for money and Plainview kills him...?
Plainview vs Bandy - Bandy knows Daniel is a murderer and knows he needs his land to build the pipeline and all he wants is for Daniel to join the church? Another potential for conflict (Bandy doesnt let him built the pipeline, maybe even blackmails him?) and an actual storyline and it gets nowhere.
Plainview vs workers - several workers die on his sites and there are no consequences? Workers don't rebel at all? Textbook Early capitalism vs proletariat conflict and we get nothing?
Plainview vs Standard oil - what was that? Huge opportunity for a conflict between these two parties battling on the oilfields and we get what? A silly restaurant scene?
I could go on and on but really there's no point. Just like the movie, it wouldn't get anywhere...
My 2 cents anyway.
