Listen, if you need to feel like a gangster go for it. Its just funny as hell to most other people who think you're a nerd. I'll ask this question to all the rap fans. What part of the music do you relate to? Is it just the soundtrack you enjoy or the actual lyrics? Sadly I dont relate to the repeatitive themes of violence, drugs, and ignorance. In the event you havent noticed its been the exact same material for the last 20 years.

Sometimes one, sometimes the other, and sometimes both. Sometimes I don't relate to the music at all, but can still enjoy it from the point of view as an observer of the art.
Can you relate to all of the hard rock and alternative songs you listen to? I sure can't, but still listen to a lot of that stuff too.
I can't relate to the movie Kill Bill either, but still enjoyed it without being a savage killer, and I can enjoy an NWA song without being a gangsta.

So has hard rock. How is Nickelback any different than Motley Crue?
For the record I don't even listen to a lot of rap. I just think its dumb to ignore an entire genre of music based on the fact that you are too ignorant to realise that there is a huge spectrum of people that create it. But go on and perpetuate stereo types if it makes you feel good. There are people on the opposite end that think all rock is like Nickelback. That would probably offend you. Unless of course you like Nickelback in which case, you are beyond help.

Dunno if it's been said, but apparently he was booed constantly afterwards at the show, especially after he gave the crowd the finger.

I'm not completely sold that this isn't a pre-arranged publicity stunt of some kind that either Kanye or MTV was party to.
Did you know the VMAs were on last night? I didn't.

Dismissing any genre of music based on a bare-bones understanding of what is going on in the mainstream of that genre is pretty stupid. I imagine that you'd be upset if someone told you your taste in music was juvenile because three-chord rock sucks and the subject matter of boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl hasn't changed for the last fifty-years.
The mainstream of every genre is pretty lousy because it caters to the lowest common denominator. Every type of music has geniuses in it, it's just unfortunate that they are frequently far from the most successful. I think it was Jay-Z who said, "If success was based on talent, Talib Kweli would be where I am today" or words to that effect.
Getting back to the topic of Kanyeezee: you gotta respect someone who's got the confidence to say whatever idiot thing enters their head no matter what audience they are facing.

Listen, if you want to feel like a down on society long haired unkempt banger go for it. The funny as hell thing applies to the other side as well. As well as the stereotypes of people who listen to certain music.

? All metal is about being a complainer and trying to sound like Cobain? I don't mean to offend, but your an idiot if you think that.
Why does listening to metal mean I am down on society and have long hair? I know you mentioned stereotypes, but don't belittle another genre because your perception of rap is "music".
I listen to metal because guitar actually takes skill and effort, and I stopped listened to "rock/heavy rock" because all the lyrics were about the same stupid things. "I can't get this girl, come to me baby, blah blah blah". And before you say "all metal lyrics have to do with blood, death, killing", they don't, read a book.
Enough music discussion, lets continue bashing the cornhole Kanye West.

I think Kanye West is a tool, he will never change and I must say I have much more respect for Beyonce now for what she did.

Personally, I don't think think you have to have instruments to have music

Well I do...other wise you have accapella.

I certainly do....he is a singer. Maybe he arranges stuff on a piano somewhere, I dont know.
I guess what i am getting at is if I go to see a "group" or an "act", and i dont see instruments on the stage being played while the singing/talking is going on, then i wonder where the musicality comes in.

Well you obviously havent been to many hip-hop concerts.
Lets see, off the top of my head I would say that 60 percent of all hip hop concerts Ive seen have included musical instruments. This includes artists such as K-os, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, and so on. Yes, even at Kanye West's concert in Calgary last year there were musical instruments in a pit below the stage.
Anyways, yes Kanye is a ######

This is not the first that idiot did that crap. The guy is biggest jerk and he think he is the best entertainer there is. I never like any of his song and I never like the guy. I feel sorry for Taylor Swift and hats off to Beyonce for letting Taylor Swift do her speech.

I hate watching the VMA's mostly because I personally find the shows boring with some okay performances...but man I have to say that watching Kanye pull that ######bag move, I'm not here to deny it was an a-hole move, but for me that moment itself made the entire show worth watching. That was one of the funniest things I've seen.
He's gonna be on the Jay Leno Show in a bit if anyone is interested in watching Jay make fun of this.

Perhaps I misunderstood your post, however what you wrote reads as an assertion to me.
"I guess what i am getting at is if I go to see a "group" or an "act", and i dont see instruments on the stage being played while the singing/talking is going on, then i wonder where the musicality comes in."
Basically it appears as if you are saying that if you see a hip hop concert you will not see intstruments...that is completely false.
