Apparently it's impossible due to rural Alberta being rather like the provincial equivalent of Quebec on the federal scene: no matter how it is treated or what influence it has, its population still resents being "voiceless" and "powerless" and demands "responsive, responsible government to address our legitimate concerns".
Then, once their shiny new party gets elected, their homegrown politicians move to the big city and find out everything's not as simple as it appears from the back forty, become "distant from their roots", and the whole process starts over. Expecting this time it will play out differently is asking for quite the leap of faith.
