In celebration of much under-appreciated "Tuesday", I broke open my Blue Label today and gave it a try. So far I'm immensely pleased. I'm not sure it justifies the whole price tag, but it's certainly the most intriguing of the Johnnie Walkers that I've tried so far, by my taste buds (and Red is the only one I've yet to try).

I don't think it's worth the price tag either.

This is one of the most famous and revered Scotch drinkers on Youtube. He has a very interesting review in which he compares a 1960s JW Red to a modern one.
I find it interesting that he likes Alberta Premium.
I then found out that Jim Murray's Whisky Bible named it the best Canadian Whisky in 2006 to 2009 lol.
Based on that, I gave it a try. It was decent but I prefer a proper single malt.
I've been watching quite a bit of Ralfy also. Hearing the details of the various whiskeys articulated in a Scottish accent makes the experience all the more enjoyable, and the dude's level of detail as far as describing the flavour and nose borders on the humorously absurd.
I don't know if it has been mentioned here yet but there is a solution if you buy a bottle that you find less than delicious - buy a bottle of Drambuie and make rusty nails out of the scotch.

That's actually why I keep a bottle of Amaretto on hand. Never tried Drambuie though.
A thread worth bumping. I've begun getting into scotch over the course of the past 6 months or so and am always interested to see what people have to say about the various brands. Inspired by Chris Hitchens, JW Black Label was the first one I purchased, and I ended up getting a bunch for Christmas in addition to some that I'd already bought, so I'll be set for the next little while. I'm currently inundated with:
Johhnie Walker Platinum Label
Johnnie Walker Collection (four small bottles of JW Blue, Black, Gold, and Green)
Glenfiddich 12 yr
The Malts Collection (three small bottles of Talisker, Lagavulin 12, and Cragganmore)
It was a scotchy Christmas (I put a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold under the tree for my grandpa, also). The JW Platinum's good, and is a new fixture in the JW line, along with Gold Reserve (which are both replacing the Gold and Green Labels in 2013). I'm excited to sample the JW Blue Label as well, even though I've been told that its quality doesn't quite aspire to the heights of its price.
Single malts are a bit heftier to get in to right off the bat, but I'm beginning to see how they're the preferred drink of the seasoned connoisseur. I really enjoy Glenfiddich 12 year (seems sweet, creamy, not overpowering), and Lagavulin has a very substantial flavour with the longest finish of any of the scotches I've tried thus far.
That JW platinum is some fine stuff. Man was that beautiful. If I could find it for cheaper than $150 I would be happy to procure some.
The Blue is amazing, amazing stuff. That's a pipe dream for me.
Any updates on the Robbie Burns event from Saturday? I had to sell my ticket, something came up.
On that note, does anybody know of any other upcoming events similar to this one that I can mark on my calendar? I'm just getting into scotch and want to see what I like without having to pay bar prices or buy entire bottles not knowing.
Maybe Bourbon should be it's own thread, but does anyone have any recommendations for a good, cheap daily sipper?
Blanton's neat or with a rock is just about perfect for me, but it's a little too expensive to drink exclusively. Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve and some of the Four Roses products are good at a slightly lower price point, but I'm still looking for the perfect cheap bottle. What are your favorites?

I am a big fan of Maker's Mark. Always keep a bottle of it in the cabinet.
So ya, Marker's Mark gets my vote!

Honestly, and I may have my 'Bourbon Appreciator's' License taken away for this:
Kirkland (Costco) Brand Small Batch Bourbon. Its good and its cheeeeap!
Other than that I like Bullitt Bourbon.

For me the discussion starts and ends with knob creek. Its quite spicy and I can see how most would either love or hate it.
As for scotch I just tried the highland park 12 based on the recommendations in this thread and for $40 or so is fantastic
