Teaching people how to be responsible won't solve much of anything. It's not like condoms and birth control are new... Many of the people having sex and getting pregnant with unwanted babies are children who are too embarrassed to go buy condoms or get on birth control. You can't stop it.

Now, that's not to say we shouldn't try and educate kids, because we should. But when you're 13 and just want to get your rocks off, you don't think about the consequences being life altering. Having people teach you that you CAN get pregnant even with the pull out technique or whatever, won't stop you cause you think it can't happen to you. It's the same reason idiots drive drunk, people dive off bridges with water that's too shallow, etc.

And frankly, it's the very reason I'm okay with abortion. I don't want to pay for idiots having kids or kids having kids.

My sister might kill me for this, but while I've told her daughter that it would be wise not to have sex, I've said also that if you are going to do it, be smart about it. I'm sure she's told her daughter the same thing. But she's almost 16 now and as far as we all know, still a virgin, so I guess it's going quite well. The most important thing a parent can teach their kids is self-awareness and knowing when you're ready to take that step. Too many kids have sex because it's supposed to be cool, not because they actually are ready to.
