Apple doesn't even have to make attack adds if that's the PC user attitude.

And quite frankly, I've stopped helping my family's broken XP based computers. If they call, I tell them to either buy a Mac or buy a computer that can handle Vista.

Both options are far superior to XP. The only market where XP should have any life at all is in the nerds who want 5 more FPS in their favorite game - and I hope those nerds know how to secure the OS.

But for general use, XP has got to go.

Windows XP and Vista weren't nearly as bad as many make them out to be, IMO. Still, if many people have problems with an OS - even if it's partly due to their own lack of understanding - it must be improved. Microsoft seems to realize this.

Windows 7 shows a lot of promise...

Agreed. I'm really enjoying the stability and speed of my 32 and (especially) 64 bit Vista boxes. However, both boxes were built for Vista from the beginnig...

My experience with Vista has been that it's generally sluggish compared with XP and crashes more often.

And it's not my computer at fault:

I've got a Q6600, 4 Gb RAM, nVidia 9800 GTX etc.

That said, I'm using it anyways, because it supports my 3D driver and XP doesn't.

I totally understand that, Vista can be a chugger compared to XP. If the user knows what they are doing, then XP is probably the best bet.

But for the general all purpose user, XP is a far worse choice. It's a security bomb waiting to go off. At least Vista had some effort put in to separate the core space from the user space.
