you know what ****es me off is people who don't recognize effort and service and are just out for a cheap buy.

In my job I spend a lot of time going out of my way for contracters, whether it's designing, tracking down information or anything else but this year alone, I lost about 100,000 in sales because my effort didn't mean anything to them and they could take my stuff and go buy it somewhere else for slightly less. You can probably assume that yes I did just get word that I may have lost yet another 50k job

Probably not, but a Direct Energy Dork came to the door and did that to me once.
That's odd, when I worked there we were taken out of the field at 7pm sharp. We were trained also to stop knocking doors past 6:45.

Yeah I know, I was just referring to the rude "customer" bit, and if you got a sale then yes, the person was a customer. As for "deserving everything" that would come to me... you'd be amazed... and your wrong.

Example: because some guy rings your doorbell your going to attack him? (or try anyway I guess in this case..)

Attack as in?? Physically? or a "I don't need your ****, go away" attack?

You'll have no chance in convincing me door to door sales is in any shape or form "Customer Service" You're going up to them, not the other way around.

When I was in school I worked at a grocery store that sold a lot of store made pizzas. We used to have this freak come in on Saturday mornings, grab all the 14" pizzas which there might be a dozen or more of, take them over to the produce department where there was a scale and weigh each freaking one.

To get a mental picture of the guy imagine the downstairs neighbour on 'Friends':

But with shorter nerdier hair, put him in a cheap t-shirt that was made in the 70's and a pair of old school NBA nuthuggers three sizes too small and you've got a pretty accurate picture of him. Looked like a creepy pedophile. After a couple of years, he gave up on weighing the pizzas every week and instead demanded a new one made just for him even though the ones in the counter were made earlier that morning. So we'd either have one from the day before that we unwrapped waiting for him to be rewrapped or we'd skimp on all the ingredients.

Do you consider it a sale if you sign him up without his knowledge, like many DE guys have been known to do?

Or did the guy purchase your service and then proceed to attempt to attack you?

Well I'd been chased a couple times. One guy raised his fist, but I never got hit. But yeah I was referring to physical attacks and being chased. Actually one time I was bit by a dog.. kept biting my leg... owner didn't do anything about it. That kind of ****ed me off... . Verbal abuse was like... what... every 2nd house? At least? You end up ignoring a lot of comments.

There was a few times when you'd hit a door that had already been hit (I know... I know.. the company didn't tell us which ones they'd already sold to or knocked on before... it was annoying for employees as well as residents). Anyways so when I ran into people who already had signed up, I'd get asked questions about the current prices and if they're deal is still good... sometimes you'd get the odd upset guy demanding answers about something or another. So yeah that'd be customer service.

That was moreso in Ontario, and I will say I know of times when that did happen, where either fake people were signed up in order to get commissions, or people were flat out lied to in order to get a sale. But I NEVER did either of those... and to be honest most of the sales people didn't... and generally frowned upon the people that did within the sales team.

Well I am in Ontario and everytime the DE guys come to my door they pull the old "let's see your bill" scam. Or at least they used to. Now when I see the DE name tag or the guy says he with DE, the door gets shut as quickly and as hard as possible.

As someone who works in retail, I agree with both sides of this thread. It's really getting to be quite the challenge to keep a sane head. Most days we are short staffed, so we've all got basically double the work to do, and no extra thanks (not that I expect it, but if people would put an effort to take two seconds to say I appreciate you, or take notice the extra things you do, it would make a huge difference). Don't even get me started on the sorts of people we are working with either! Then to get yelled at, day in and day out for petty things. I take the time to listen, no matter how arrogant the customer is, and from their perspective, I get it as well. I know there's nothing worse then going somewhere and finding something you needed out of stock or not there, or you get bad service. But I'd prefer you have bad service for someone tell THEM, dont take it out on me. I'm polite to everyone, even the regulars who always have sticks up their a$$es, is it possible to get some respect back. That's all we ask. Lately we are being treated like slaves by customers. I know I'm there to serve you, but if I do a good job, and am courteous, at least show me a little bit of respect. I know it's definately rough out there, and there's a lot of knobs working out there, that's for sure, but anytime I go somewhere and get good service I at least say thanks.
