just a question, if all this stuff gets built, and expansion heads toward the AIrdrie Calgary gap, in some time, do you think thats where the location for the flames new rink will be?

no, I can't see it leaving the stampede grounds, there is so much value in having a centrally located facility, and the stampede grounds is a perfect fit.

yeah, just imagine the drive someone who lives in the south would have to take...it would be horrible. Remember, there are going to be times when the Flames are doing pretty poorly (although according to half this forum, they already are), so for some bandwagon fans it might not be worth the drive out. And how would someone without a car get there?
As well, having a centrally located arena not only makes it easiest for everyone to get to the stadium, but also adds to the nightlife athmosphere of our city....which I'm sure everyone agrees is something that needs help.

Well... he hasn't busted out with how his GSUS & Armani shirts he bought locally makes E-Town a dynamic and cosmopolitan scene yet so I'd say no for now....

I think the poster is alluding to the lack of a Quadrent system. IE; SW, NE, etc, etc.
Oh, and am I the only one one who can't even fathom the comparison between a large collection of stores and the unspoiled panorama of the Rockie Mountains?
Granted I count Snowboarding as my favorite activity, but, comeon, the mountains will NEVER go out of style. Is there anything modern/manmade that isn't a victim of trendy-ness?

F07 is correct, there was even a ball room where my parents used to leave me when shopping. Ikea then moved to off whitemud in between the 2 calgary trails then moved to south common.
I only lived in Edmonton for school purposes and I know that.

Hey, I remember that IKEA! That was in the mall? I was pretty young when my parents used to go. I loved that ballroom.

Sorry, but Mall of America is way better than West Ed. That's largely because it's 15 years newer but there's still no questioning that it's a much better shopping experience. It was actually built and is owned by the same company that owns West Edmonton Mall.

He probably is... though I wouldn't say a quadrant system is better than what Edmonton has. Especially to an out-of-towner it can be a little confusing.

Edmonton has a quadrant system too, the centre of it is just way off in the boondocks.
I love the quadrant system now that I live here, but damn did I ever hate it for the first little bit.

That's true, I believe Ellerslie is 9 ave SW as an example. That quadrant system was built out of necessity (city expansion) more than anything... and I guess that's one advantage of Calgary's system is the city can expand endlessly without affecting the street numbering.
It's still confusing for out-of-towners. I know my friends from Winnipeg have no idea where they're going in Calgary.

Thats only fair, as nobody has any clue where they are going in Winnipeg either. Their route numbering system is just god awful.

The funny part is, in Winnipeg they don't even pay attention to the route numbers. When I moved there from Calgary I used to always refer to it by numbers and people had no idea what I was talking about.
You'd think they would use the numbers since their streets change names randomly and often. Route 62 for example is (south to north) Dakota, Dunkirk, Osborne, Memorial, Colony, Balmoral, Isabel and Salter.
The last six name changes happen over a 4 km stretch!

The value is negated by the sheer amount of money lost to the Stampede Board in parking and concessions... If they can make more money in the Calgary-Airdrie gap, they'll move, and really, I live in the SW, it takes me 20-25 mins to get to the Saddledome, and about 30 to the airport, and about 35-40 to Airdrie. Its not a big enough difference. The only real requirement would be LRT, and that could be on the way in the next 15 years anyway.

The Stampede doesnt make any money from concessions, IIRC. The Flames operate the Dome, not the Stampede.
Chances are very high that the Flames negotiate a better deal on parking with the Stampede when the new building starts to happen. The Stampede knows full well that the Casino alone will not fill that parking lot outside of the Rodeo.

Why do you think I'm still in this thread?
I'm trying to figure it out. If its Sundeep, he'd have brought up the River Vally or the billizion festivals Edmonton has. If its Tikk, he'd say "Bitter much?" although Smyth94 has said something close to that. Even a stretch, if its e-town, he'd mention something about stabbings in Calgary downtown, although Smyth94 has ventured down that route too.
Smyth94 seems to get manipulated easily to get him to say what you want him to say, so he's obviously not very smart... from that, its gotta be one of those 3 ######'s.
I had to take a few stabs that went off the board to try and get a usual response from one of the other, but he hasn't responded accordingly.

Well, I know Sundeep's writing pretty well, I think. I've nailed him on 6 of his 9 (that we know of) re-entries into OF.com. I really wouldn't be surprised if this is him again. Wouldn't take much for Jiri or Bingo to do an IP check, I wouldn't think.

Negotiate a better deal on parking? For whom? I can't see the Flames doing that for Flames fans, as it would decrease their own parking revenues from the parkade and lots that they own, as they increase their prices in lockstep with the Stampede.
And you are right, the Stampede doesn't get squat from Concessions from the Dome.
As for the Stampede being worried about the parking lot being empty if the Flames were to build a new building away from Stampede Park I wouldn't worry too much. There is so much going on in the Roundup Centre and Big 4 buildings, as well as the Corral and even the events in the ag facilities that often parkign for Flames games is so limited the Flames advise people to take transit because there is no parking at Stampede Park.
However, as I've mentioned in other threads, it makes tons of sense to have the 'new 'Dome' remain on Stampede Park, and there are two areas that have been designated as potential sites for a new arena in their development plans.
