One of the chief poobah's of this show said a month ago they were concentrating more on romantic storylines versus their previous tack of looking backstage at producing a show, all to elevate viewership.
Hilarious episode last night.
"You understand some words of English?"
"Yes."
"How many words?"
"All of them."
"Well . . . I don't understand. Why do you pretend you don't understand?"
"Because its fun."
Or: " . . . . did you understand those words you stupid commie."

I still am having problems with the Matt/Harriet romance - just don't buy it. It a rareity on TV, the romantic subplot where you are hoping that the characters just move on from each other.

Then again, Wikipedia has an interesting statement partially explaining Studio 60's lack of viewers:

The problem is that most people who record the shows (like me) skip through the commercials. That is why I dont mind product placement in the shows - give me that anytime over a commercial for 30 Rock.

The weird part about that exchange is it's a bit of a plothole. Remember the Nevada Day episode when his daughter translated incorrectly that Jordan's ex-husband brought shame and dishonour (she thought it was Jordan that brought shame and dishonour). Afterwards Jack goes off on Zhang and tells him to take his deal to Time Warner.
I guess an explanation could be that he didn't want to give away that he spoke english at the time by correcting her (maybe his daughter doesn't even know he speaks english?) but I found it a bit odd.

A lot of people with PVRs or DVRs automatically have the commercials cut out or easily skip them so it does nothing to benefit NBC to have those included in ratings.

Tonights episode was pretty good. When I saw the synopsys about flashbacks, I rolled my eyes. But they did a good job going back and forth from each sequence.

Meh. I didn't like that episode at all. Why do we need to revisit how two characters who have no chemistry met and guess what...still didn't have any chemistry back then. I was hoping the show had moved past this romantic relationship as the focus of the show, but here we are right back here again.

I was sad to hear that they'd cancelled S60 as it seemed to be hitting its stride and the cast was coming along nicely (I like the guys playing Tom & Simon) aside from the overly soap opera-ish type romantic crap.
Tonight's episode was good - thoroughly enjoyed not even seeing Danny or Matt but watching Allison Janney get screwed over by the big disaster show was hilariously good. Fave line of the night was when Janney asked why the cast was so relaxed and Jeter replied "Cuz we know how to make it look like your fault." (or something like that...)

Boy that was really good tonight. An example of what the show could've been if they hadn't focused so much on the Harriet/Matt love story that had no chemistry.

Yeah, it was a really good episode - it's a shame the show got cancelled as I have a feeling it could have found its way in the 2nd season.

I really enjoyed that episode. What a pity that the show never really had a chance to find it's feet, or audience for that matter. Perhaps there really are too few of "us" out there who like good dialogue and such. Meh, I could even live with the crappy Harriet/Matt storyline. It still beat all of the pitiful reality stuff that's on. Such is life I guess.............

No you didnt. Last week's show was a filler show by all appearances. Sorkin has a reputation for falling behind on his story arches so he'll occassionally knock off a show that he can drop in at anytime when he's not ready in time for the usual schedule. He did it with the West Wing as well. You can tell because the shows lack any continuity from previous shows. They are basically standalone episodes.
Last week I think was one of these because it did not have anything to do with any of the ongoing story arches and most of the main characters weren't even in it. Good episode but nothing missed.
Last night's though was very strong.

And very Sports Night - Sorkin's first show. The entire final season of Sports Night revolved a storyline where the network was dumping the Sports Show and a rival network was interested in picking it up - which was the same scenario that was happening to the show itself in real life, as HBO was considering picking up Sports Night when ABC cancelled it.
Sorkin is a guy that tends to put a lot of his real life happenings into his shows - perhaps too much in fact. The Danny character in Studio 60 is pretty much Sorkin.
