I was going to write a little disclaimer in my previous post, because I figured someone would respond with something along these lines. I don't think there is any denying that stating the things I've stated are stereotypes, but I DID also mention that these were things I've observed over time.
Stereotypes happen for a reason. They may evolve because of a person's culture or religious beliefs, but I don't think it's unfair to state that many Asians are show offs, or that they, more than any other group, have a liking for high end items. Obviously you will be able to find Asians who do NOT fit this description at all.

Maybe it is something that I should just keep. I will just continue on and not mention to anyone what I paid for it. But like really, when I refuse to give up a $1200 phone, how pathetic is that.

No its not unfair. In fact, Ive known many asian girlfriends in the past who were much worse than me, as far as feeling that they "have to" own high brand name stuff and personal image, status quo, etc. Some wont drive a1987 honda, instead they want a 2006 Audi TT...that kind of thing.
I will admit, I know I am materialistic, otherwise I wouldnt be spending such insane prices on basic stuff. But its something Im desperate in coming out of.
Glasses - $400
Cell - $750
Sunglasses - $250
Skirt - $450
and so on...
If I wasnt living this crazy "rich n famous" lifestyle, I could have gotten those 4 things for a fraction of what I paid, like 1/5! That is 4 things that I paid $1850 for, and I could have gotten for well under $600, maybe even $500! Wow, think of all the extra money I would have right now to invest into my savings.
Like I said, Im the only person in the family who tends to live this way. All my other sisters are the opposite. They dont go out spending $750 on a phone, or get new eyewear when they dont even need it. They are able to use stuff as is, and focus on what life is all about.

I am not really judging, but it sounds like you have some massive holes in your life that you try to fill by buying a bunch of crap. Maybe go volunteer at the women's shelter a few times a week?

Do your sisters still live at home as well? I'm willing to bet that if you left home (I know you said it would be difficult but consider it) that your spending habits will change into something more reasonable. It sounds like you are done your schooling and essentially have no expenses (I'm not counting that cell phone). It is probably time to gain some responsibility and leave the nest. Learning to budget your money to the necessities then to everything else is a very important skill.
Having extra money to buy nice things is perfectly fine. Everyone wants to treat themselves occassionally. The problem I see is that you seem to have no concept on what it takes to live. Do you know how much it costs to pay rent? Food? Insurance? I know I didn't when I first moved out. Just consider these points because all adults have to deal with them.
One quick example is that you mentioned you were doing some long distance calls on your cell phone. Why the fork were you doing that? Using a standard phone line through Telus (~$25/month for basic phone) or the Shaw cable phone (~$60/month with included long distance) is infinitely cheaper than ping-ponging that cell phone signal through space.

i have absolutely no idea what it takes to live and survive in the real world. Sadly that is the case. First I will have to find a job before moving out.
I dont do long distance on my cell anymore, Ive learned my lesson. I try to only use it at nights when its free, otherwise I try not to use it in the day.
Now, I am doing something very difficult, Im going to sell this phone. I dont want to, and it will depress me after but honestly it is not worth it and I have to do it! If I want to change, I have to start sacrificing things I dont need. Oh boy...I sure hope I dont end up buying it again. This is not easy at all, but it has to be done.

I don't think you should be looking at your friends for any lessons on how to divert from this ridiculous spending.
You're only further rationalizing why it's ok to do so.
Upon reading about how you rebought the phone you just sold..especially considering how much this phone is..that is just incomprehensible!!
It seems like you can just throw this money (well over $500) with little to no care! Anything that enters the 3 digit range for me requires a lot of debate, and usually follows with a lot of buyer's remorse. I just can't imagine how you would not regret buying a 1200 phone. IMO it (the phone) doesn't impress anyone unless you hand it over for them to inspect.

I know, re-buying the phone, especially for more money than I paid on the first one, just goes to show how uncontrollable my thoughts can be when I really want something. Both phones I got deals on them, so $650 and $750 were discounted prices. had I not found that kind of deal on the 2nd one, i wouldnt have gotten it again. But I was very close to buying somewhere else for $900cdn.
And yes, I have no sense of the true value of money. That explains why I go throw down $400 like its nothing, on glasses when I didnt even need it. All I had to do was fix my old pair, and at that time they were only 2 months old and those were $200. Boy do I ever regret getting the 2nd pair, its just sitting here, used only when I go out. Was using them everyday at work, when i was working, and the old pair at home. Or how about the days when I used to spent $25 a day on lunch eating out. Thank god, I have that part controlled, I rarely eat out now, which is good.

I think I've figured it out. MissKat is actually Paris Hilton and with her blossoming singing career she is clearly a better person than the rest of us. Seriously, I'm not sure if you're trying to make people hate you but I'm starting to get a strong dislike.
Also, just because those phones were on a "sale" doesn't mean you should buy them. Does it not strike you as odd that they were both on sale for about the same price at two different times? Perhaps it wasn't much of a sale in the first place?
I think I'm done posting in this gong show. For someone who is likely only a couple years younger than me you seem to be light years away in being an adult. Grow up.

Can this thread be locked? It seems like half of these posts would be better off in the form of pm's. Its like a damn cat chasing it's tail, the way it goes around and around and around....
