Did the US really play as bad as this sounds? I never saw the game...

That guy is actually kind of ######ed when it comes to soccer, if you are interested in reading an actual commentary on a game I would visit some sort of credible resource or better yet just take in a game yourself.

This game has been far less exciting than I thought it would be. I should have got up early for the Germany/Sweden one. Too bad it's not a golden-goal situation.

Wow, that was a fantastic goal. Given that Mexico hasn't managed much in the way of chances, it looks good for Argentina.

What an unbelievable goal that was. I wish there was still the golden goal rule as that was a goal deserving of winning any game. Fantastic stuff.

Argnentina vs Germany should be an awesome match. I think Germany will win that one.

and that was a great goal in the Argentina game. I think goal of the tournament so far.

What the hell is wrong with soccer?

I don't get it. Why all of a sudden did soccer officials decide that sudden death overtime was a bad thing? "No we're going to play an extra 30 minutes so each team has an even chance to tie again because we really like deciding games with penalty kicks."

Jeez Murphy, that goal should have won the game right then and there. Sometimes soccer just boils my blood.

Eitherway, nice gutcheck there Mexico. After Mexico gets scored on they still have more than 20 minutes to make something happen and they lay a big fat egg. You could see they practically gave up after they were scored on. Better off having it official in the rules that the game is over when a goal is scored in overtime instead of just having the other team give up for the next 20 minutes.

Stupid soccer.

Totally agree. What exactly was wrong with the "Golden goal" rule? I thought it worked really well and made the extra time way more exciting. Like I said before that goal deserved to decide the game right then. Do any of our European based posters have any idea why it was changed back?

Germany is one great big Red Mile Saturday night. Flags in most windows, people driving around small towns honking and waving flags. German commentators have gone from saying GER will be lucky to get out of the group stage to saying GER will win the World Cup if they beat ARG. IMO, GER has not played one quality side yet. ARG will send them packing, and the entire nation into tears.

Final score from Munich: Poland 2, Germany 0, Swe 0 (Non-german fans here like to joke about the number of foreign born players on GER)

What is with the best players in the world shooting the ball over the net 99% of the time from 20 m out?

80,000+ Dutch expected in Nurnberg today. Could get ugly if NED should lose.

Beckham just scored on a perfect free kick. Classic stuff from him.

if england keep´s up their play, they´ll be back in london pretty soon, they played so a crappy game - unbelievable, and a real good goalie would have had beckhams free kick

And yet they won which is what it's all about. Like it or not, it's results that matter and England are on the same level as Germany and Argentina. You can surmise all you like about a different goalie saving Beckhams; free kick. You can say that about pretty much every goal, apart from Argentina's winner yesterday.

England has yet to play well at all, they have a crappy coach, and few attacking options. However, here they are in the quarter finals with a real chance to go further in one off elimination games.

Where the heck did FIFA pick up this Russian ref in the Netherlands - Portugal game. It's like he's trying to do his best imitation of Kerry Fraser...

No kidding.......this is the most upset I've been watching sports since the Flames lost to the Ducks.

Robben takes a boot to the head........no call. WTF?

At least Portugal will be a man down the rest of the way, and Ronaldo is hurt. The Dutch had good possesion, but not much offense.

Could Van Nistelroy be coming in off the bench for the 2nd half?

I'm not sure if I love or hate soccer becuase of this, but nice sequence there. Maroon kicks the legs out of a white player, obvious yellow card, and while white is down on the turf, FOUR maroon players crowd over him to do what, exactly? Wish him well? If I was white, I would have sent that player beaking off tumbling with a punch to the jaw, not a shove to the chest.
