The cities of Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, Canadas 3 most populous have a total of ZERO conservative members of parliament.
Too bad for them I suppose.

Again, different ridings = different issues. Windsor is a high Union city, hence two NDP MPs. Western Ontario is rural and Agriculture based, and went mostly Tory. Toronto is very urban and ethnic, and went Liberal. Be happy, everyone bitched here, because the Conservatives couldn't win, now they bitch because it wasn't a sweep.

And CBC just had the "young & hip" coffee sippers that are supposedly representing me (the 25-35 age group) in a mocked up set in Toronto...basically just fell of short of handing out weed amongst all the bitching about Harper and war....about as educated as the ones they are pointing their nose up at.

Crap. Tony Clement wins by 21 votes. Hopefully Harper overlooks this clown when it comes to his cabinet

I gotta say, I'm really pleased with the results, particularly the gains made by the NDP at the expense of the LPC. It's a shame that (as it stands) they fall just short of holding the balance of power.
But an Alberta-based government that has to look to Quebec for support? This is democracy at its sweetest.

I really wonder if there may not be a deal or two made in the next couple days to have a couple Lib MP's cross the floor. I would think they will for sure approach the indy in Q City.
Harper wont, and shouldnt, want to have anything to with the Bloc after those outrageous shots Duceppe took at the new PM and his "city".

Actually, I am the one that is satisfied with a change in government.
All I am saying, is their are thousands of issues that determine what someone votes, and comments about being ignorant or cowardly because they chose a party/candidate that they felt best fit their needs is ridiculous. Be happy, many felt there was no hope........... there apparently was.

LPC +NDP > CPC
So if they sign a coalition agreement, they could in fact form the government. But Layton helped bring the government down, so why would he agree to such an arrangement?

It will be really interesting to see what Harper can do with the Bloc. The potential for future Tory support in Quebec is incredible. Let's hope the Conservatives do a really boring job of pleasing the important parts of Canada. Maybe help get those off-shore rigs in Atlantic Canada up and running and we could see a Conservative majority next time around.

I don't see why the Conservative supporters are complaining. If current seats hold (123-104-50-30-1) and the Tories make a Liberal the speaker of the house, then the Tories can effectively form an alliance with any party. For an electoral refrom issue, get the NDP on board. If it's a fiscal issue, see if the liberals or bloc will bite. They need to show that they can make this parliment work if they want to get a bigger mandate next term.

My understanding is that the Libs and the NDP form a coalition government and combine as one party and therefore have more seats than the conservatives and they form the minority government. Not likley going to happen but i would not put it past Martin or Layton

Technically, it's possible, but if they tried that, the Tories and Bloc would shut them down on the first non-confidence motion. What's the point in trying to form a coalition that still isn't a majority?

Doesn't happen like that. The GG approaches the leader of the party with the most seats first and asks them if they can form a government first. Martin and Layton won't be able to show up Harper.

I was thinking the same thing. I would do that but does not the speaker break ties in the House??
