Refs dropped the ball how?

It wasn’t an intentionally dirty hit on Mackinnon. But whatever, Wilson started something and then got chucked unceremoniously to the ice by a stronger player. So he puts hands on an official to try and get back in it? Just dumb.

What an idiot Wilson is. That’s the temper we were worried about. Why fight some scrub you won’t see again?

With an 8 goal victory, Canada's final goal differential is 17. Going into today's game against Germany, the USA's goal differential is 7.

The US needs to defeat the Germans by 10 or more otherwise Canada will be the top seed into the quarterfinals.

If I'm reading the standings correctly, barring a major upset, Canada will play the winner of the Czechia-Germany qualifier in the QF, which is better than the US playing Sweden.

It may not have ot have been intentionally dirty, but the initial and primary contact were to the head. A 5 minute call there would have cooled the temperature considerably. And it would have been the correct call.

Then they missed the one on Jarvis as well. SO yeah, they dropped the ball, and and Wilson felt the need to do something.

The refs let that happen... if they call a 5 and a game like that should have been the game dies out. Like saying sorry makes a difference after a head hit in a 10-2 game, you know someone was going to go after him

IMO, that is the spot where Bedard would have been the better choice - he would be deadly as MacKinnon's winger.

It may turn out that Suzuki is needed, and a role is required for him. But having him as MacKinnon's winger is a poor decision, IMO
Agreed on both counts. There are a lot of guys who could have worked well there who weren't selected - Robert Thomas is basically made in a lab to play that role. Horvat should be on one of MacKinnon's wings as another north-south type of player who can give you a burst of speed when there's open space.

As for Suzuki, he's perfectly suited to a bottom 6 center role. You play him with Marchand, Jarvis, Bennett, Hagel, Stone, there are lots of combos that work there.

It's a message to other teams as well.

It's why he is on the team.

It was at a meaningless time.

it was not him losing his temper but a carefully selected fight.

Contact to the head yes. By a forearm that was tucked and at Cainon’s waist level. It wouldn’t have been the correct call, and if you make it 5 to “cool the game” that’s game management.

And even if it had been I’m betting Wilson does exactly the same thing.

Yes the missed Jarvis hit really sparked that from Wilson. A second head hit like that couldn’t get passed by.

McKinnon looks to have given his knee a small tweak because of some revenge hits he was taking.

Other teams also only play Canada once, in elimination games. No one will change their play based on fear of Tom Wilson.

I think it was perfect. The message he sent was fata you. Going back was silly because he was ragdolled. He's not on the team for his mensa score.

Does anyone give a worse interview than Crosby? Speaks a lot without saying anything. Speaks in cliches and platitudes. Almost like the wizard. Went to same media coaching school I guess.

He hit him in the head, refs should have called it correctly. Did you guys not see how mad Nate was? He came out hitting guys without the puck and took a penalty.

But the apology corrects it, right? Even Steven now? Not everything needs to be a meessage in this romanticized lore of hockey.
Its not chess. Its a neanderthal sport played by neanderthals and why we love it.

It felt to me that Wilson initially went after the France player as a response to the hit, but once he got dummied and tossed to the ice he lost his cool and the nonsense thereafter was all him being selfishly embarassed.

No further discipline for Wilson...because it was a big nothing to begin with.
