I want the Rockets to fail so badly. The one thing in their favor is the west is full of parity outside of Everett.

Meh....every Memorial Cup host team seemingly does this every year.
They will pay a price for it in the near future.

Yeah the Rockets have paid a heavy price in future picks, lost the 2025 draft lottery and then basically were forced to trade Liam Pue becuase of the mem cup. Their attendance is down and they haven't been great or a real serious WHL title threat in almost a decade, they're not exactly in an enviable position and I'm not sure why people would be hating on them.
That said I think Bruce Hamilton has brought a lot of the last stretch on himself, ever since Lorne Frey left and they lost their superscout he's made a fair few mistakes and kind of been exposed. It's kind of a weird situation when your GM owns the team because he can't be fired and he's clearly prepping to hand it over to his son even though they are not exactly thriving.
A bit crazy to me that Schmidt was apparently available and instead of pushing all the chips in after many trades and bleeding picks Hamilton goes for Halaburda who isn't as good IMO.
Still once they get the 3 world junior guys back, between them, Wetsch, Halaburda, Gojsic, Paupanekis and Smith they should pretty much have 8 PPG+ forwards and should in theory be good. They've just looked thrown together all year though so far and pretty unimpressive, and don't have a lot of runway left.

I'm hating on them because they (the CHL) should have awarded the Memorial Cup to Medicine Hat, a storied WHL team for 55 years now that has yet to be a host team. I also don't know how much longer Willie Desjardins will coach the Tigers, but he just passed Ernie 'Punch' McLean for 5th most coaching wins in WHL history. It was all laid out on a silver platter for the CHL to do the right thing and yet they bungled it.
Yes, I know Kelowna got screwed losing their chance to host the Memorial Cup due to COVID-19, but they've already hosted the event. Surely, they could have given it to Medicine Hat with the intention to go to Kelowna the next time the WHL hosts the Memorial Cup, but I guess that was a bridge too far.

I understand where you are coming from but it sounds like you should be hating on the league for its decision rather than Kelowna

Yeah, you can call it a case of misplaced anger. I also think that we should do away with the host team automatically being gifted a berth into the Memorial Cup, as you know, it used to be just the three junior league champions that would vie for the Memorial Cup, but they brought in the host team in order to boost attendance at the event. Junior hockey is very popular these days though and the arena will be packed regardless of where the event is held.
I have nothing against Kelowna, I have visited and vacationed there several times, it's a beautiful city. i prefer Penticton these days though, not quite as busy.

Yeah, Cozens really took a step this year.
Heger is American and committed to the NCAA next year, so not sure what the Canes are doing here. Have Heger for a couple months now and then.....? Not much of a future return.

The Tigers still have one too many over 20's on the team, they need to find a trade partner or release a guy prior to the roster freeze on Saturday.

Probably will have to just cut one of them as I don't see anyone giving up an asset for a 20yo that isn't a top player. All three of the Tigers 20's are great depth guys, and great team guys, but they are not elite players contending teams will be hunting for.

I still have no idea if it breaks any rules to have Gavin come back for/during the playoffs once his NCAA season is done. Since he won't be going back to the NCAA next season I don't think there is anything stopping him if it's something both he and the team want.
Maybe I'm out to lunch, I dunno.

Kelowna got Tij and Poletin back and have also added Cihar, Alcos and Halaburda to go along with Smith, Gosjic, Leslie, Wetsch and Paupanekis. They are probably going to start moving up the standings now I would think.
