When Dubas was fired, there was only a month or so until Marner's trade protection kicked in. It would have required a lot of balls to trade away your best winger, and reportedly, Shanahan told Tre that he wasn't allowed to trade Marner anyway.

If the latter part is true it does absolve him of responsibility, but either way they are not making the playoffs this season, and I think the writing is on the wall.

Saw a post on reddit saying that Treliving says a lot without actually saying anything lol.

Likely a complete house cleaning in the offseason barring a miraculous turnaround. It will be interesting to see where they go looking. I would be on the phone with DeBoer's agent as the Leafs aren't going to rebuild and need a coach that can get quick results and that's what he does for a few seasons anyway.
