And why the heck wouldn't Rantanen take 8 x 12 with Colorado?
Rantanen likely wouild've gone with an 8x$12M contract in Colorado - who wouldn't when you have McKinnon and Makar as part of the core and any player playing beside McKinnon is gonna look great? Look as Necas. I think his agent wanted to squeeze the Avs franchise as much as possible especially when Drai got $14M that kicks in next year. Rantanen ain't no Draisaitl who can actually carry the team when McD isn't around.

Stars are going to be tight on cap next season.

I would try and expose this. Might be able to squeeze Borque out of there

NC (and Colorado) have a flat income tax rate of about 4.5%. Texas of course has none. $540K per year on the entire amount (I know it doesn't quite work that way but it's a starting point for comparison).

Rantanen might also just have gotten tired of the uncertainty.

You also never know who's driving the ship. Maybe it was his agent pushing for the big bucks, and now Rantanen has had enough of the games and just wants it done. Or it could have been the other way around, with Rantanen not listening to his agent.

Feels like unless Canes flip the firsts immediately, they got much worse

Yeah. That’s a great return for Carolina. Especially considering the position they were in.

Going to be interesting what the Canes spend the 1sts on. Not that much time left on the clock.

What a bizarre turn of events for the Canes. The whole thing is so weird.

So, they basically got futures for Rantanen. Carolina is a good team that still makes moves that might hurt them now but is great for them in the long run.

Somehow, the Canes ending up profiting off of this debacle.

Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
for
Stankoven and two 1sts.

OMG. Conny is so stupid. Why didn't he trade Kadri for that package!

[Sorry. I had to...]

So the Canes traded Necas, Drury, 2nd, 4th for

Hall, Stankoven, 1st, and supposedly Boeser.

Thats actually not that bad...

Canes have great asset management! They bring out really competitive teams every year and have assets to improve.
