Here is my only concern.

Wolf looks like the real deal. So does Zary. Same with Coronato.

Are we just seeing some guys' ceilings or...whats going on here? Is this sustainable?

Because this team should be in the basement not challenging for the Division.

Honestly, this is just a good group of people and players. It appears Conroy and scouts have built the culture of this room the right way. Good to see that they are also good at hockey as a team. Funny how that works somehow as well. It appears that it's not the fastest team that gets through the tough grind of the season, it's the one that believes and plays for each other.

See...this is the thing...I want to believe that.

But...I am also a lifelong Flames fan so...I've been let down before.

I believe that my inherent skepticism is well-earned. So...I'm enjoying it at the moment but I still think this is the part of the rollercoaster ride where we're still going up.

We all know what comes next.

The problem is that will get you so far, but the reality is (especially on forward) these team is missing the superstar level talent.

If we aren't going to bottom out (and this season is looking like we wont so far) it will take some extreme luck/creativity/both to find 2-3 top line superstars to make this a contending team.

That's the problem with overachieving when you don't have a lot of top end talent.

True but why not enjoy what we got? You are right, it is hard to repeat this success with this approach. Skill is important. I also don't want to discount the Will.

I’m concerned about the Flames’ 2025 1st, but if the Flames’ coaches and players want to play this well, I’m gonna cheer for the Flames’ 2025 1st to be as late as possible. If the Flames’ lose a high teens or low twenties 1st for a high twenties or low thirties 1st, that might not be that big a deal in a shallow 2025 draft.

I see it. Coronato and Jarvis could be brothers.

Yeah, I am here for the ride. I just hope they don't pull a Hamonic or Neal this offseason and see if the team regresses next year.
Still hard to see a path for them to become a real contender until they get a #1C in the system.

It is only a problem if they change what the plan is. If the team keeps progressing then that means some of the young players are turning into stars. If they regress then they get a high pick over the 26/27 drafts.

Thats sort of where I'm at too. I'm here for the ride, trying not to get too enthused now, despite the fact that the games are actually fun to watch but in anticipation of what I consider 'the inevitable crash.'

Zary could very well develop into that number one center. Plays the game the right way at both ends of the ice. Loads of skill and very good at protected the puck. Also has great vision.

That's the thing.
He had all of that in Junior, and he was the dominant 1C for the Blazers. I am the first to admit that I was skeptical if he would translate to the NHL, but he continues to develop.

Impressive young player.

This team kind of reminds me of Vegas in their first year. No real superstars, a lot of depth, and a group of players that seem to have chemistry, and are playing with a chip on their shoulder... Although I am enjoying their level of play, I have this nagging voice in the back of my head saying "we need to finish bottom 5, or we are destined for perpetual mediocrity."

Or…maybe…a team doesn’t need a superstar…but a group of players evenly matched ALL THROUGH THE LINEUP who work their butts off constantly.

It’s not “the model” but is there a valid reason it can’t work? Has any other team ever done that? (Crowdsourcing from the hockey historians here…)

The empty net attempts were like a game of table hockey.

This game combined with the snow game in Cleveland made for a fun night of sports!

If they overachive this year then whatever enjoy it. The pendulum will likely swing back to underachieving next season unless Flames prospects keep developing into NHL players. My biggest concern isn't even the draft pick this year it is they jump start moves trying to be competitive.

Haha. This is a ringette play. If you can hit the pass in stride they have speed and the defence is flat-footed. Nice.
