It’s down to games played. Goalies don’t get serious consideration unless they play at least 45 games. Wolf is trending towards those numbers, but it’s early to project games played at this point.

Skinner was second a couple years ago.

12 and 23 games played. That's why.
If wolf starts 45 games and comes out with similar numbers he should get strong consideration.

a quick perusal (admittedly not with deep dive birthday checks) I think at least 5 or 6 teenage calder winners since the last goalie, with most other winners being 20 or 21

Take this season, for example. Dustin Wolf is a 23-year-old who had 18 games of NHL experience and 141 games in the American League going into this season. How are 19-year-old Matvei Michkov and 18-year-old Macklin Celebrini supposed to compete with that?

I wonder how the author feels about Panarin's win at age 25....

That's twelve games. Shesterkin was a rookie in 20-21 with 35 games and finished 5th in Calder voting.

Alex Nedeljkovic 3rd in voting that same year

If you can win a Vezina with sub 50 games, then a goalie should be able to win the Calder sub 50 games.

Whether he wins the calder or not the stat that amazes me is he just loves to win.
Since turning pro Wolf has a 113-44-11 record, all his teammate goalies combined are 119-109-35.

Skinner had Conn Smythe votes and one Oilery writer had no Panthers on their ballot
Skinner who didn't even start all playoff games with Pikard playing behind him

Yeah why not. Just forego the rookie award that will inevitably go to some eastern forward and gun for the main goalie award.

Or. Preferably. DGAF about either one of them and just keep on kicking ass and taking names and let come what may.

Obviously a few more days to go in this month, but checking the stats, Wolf has to have the rookie of the month close to locked up.
And he's absolutely in the running for a player of the month overall.
To date in November:
5-0-1, 1.62 GAA, 0.944 S%

Does he push to make the American team if his hot play continues through December?
He'd be a lock for the team Canada starter

Hellebuyck and Oettinger are likely ahead of him in any case.
Stats wise, competing with Daccord and Stolarz for the third spot (if they take 3?). Several other guys that might be in consideration for third spot too, if they value something else, for example like experience (Quick)

Stolarz is a mirage.
This year's Oilers PK

Not sure I agree. Stolarz has been very good for a long time. He just has never shouldered a starter's workload before.
He's only posted a sv% below .917 in two seasons out of ten in the NHL.

A starters workload is different.
But maybe they keep it to a split.

In order to help with the kicking ass, I volunteer to steal all the team's bubblegum.
