I’m so happy someone did this. It was pretty criminal for the Flames not to have done the Broberg offer sheet at least, we can use a LD long term

Interesting impact on the Draisaitl situation from Lowetide’s blog (Lowetide is a radio host in Edmonton and a contributor to the Athletic for the Oilers):

Quote:

This might force a decision on the Draisaitl contract sooner rather than later. I think it’s more probable that he gets traded before the season starts than what the media is indicating.

I know from a common acquaintance that he hasn’t enjoyed the Edmonton spotlight, particularly in his neighbourhood where he has become more reclusive over the past year. But more pressing is that Celeste wants to pursue her acting career full time in a place where she is likely to have more opportunity than this Northern outpost so LA/Anaheim is probably a perfect outcome for her, but I maybe NY would work too.

Having the Oilers implode because Celeste's career involving bit parts on Letterkenney is taking priority would be hilarious.

Does anyone know if there was any indication of beefing between STL and CHI during the overlapping years whilst Bowman was part of the Blackhawks?

As Armstrong has been with St. Louis since 2010, I wonder if there is some existing bad blood between him and Bowman.

They will match both. They can hide Kane's salary on LTIR.

Even after throwing Kane on LTIR, they'd still be 2.1M over the cap.

Looks like she is on track to be starring in Hallmark Christmas movies yearly on the Women's Network.

You realize that comment is not lowetide but someone commenting on the post? It’s a random poster, may be true but who the heck knows?

Random posters have more credibility than Edmonton's basement bloggers.

Can’t believe Bowman just stood by and watched as his vulnerable team was taken advantage of.

I have my doubts that Kane would even agree to play ball. Things appeared a little spicey between Kane and his line mates at times last season. Kane probably still has his eyes set on another NHL contract in a couple of years and knows sitting out for a large part of next season hurts his value.

What order is required for the oilers in a scenario where they choose to match both? I’m assuming at some point, the following has to happen but I’m not clear on the order.

A) Match both offer sheets
B) Place Kane on LTIR
C) Trade one of Ceci or Kulak
D) Trade someone else or place someone else on LTIR before Kane is re-activated from LTIR

My understanding is that the ideal situation for a team is place a player on LTIR on day one of the season rather before the season starts because that maximizes cap saving potential from LTIR for the season. If that’s the plan then they would need to make sure they are cap compliant on day one before they do that.

Also, can the oilers match the offersheets and not place Kane on LTIR right away while remaining below the cap ceiling + 10% of the cap? If not, doesn’t that mean they’ll have to either trade someone or place Kane on LTIR before they can match?

I know but they will jump through some hoops to move a guy like Kulak out or something else stupid. This is the Oilers we are talking about here.

I would think, for the Oilers to match both players. They would need to move out a contract. (i.e. to stay under 10%)
