This is pure speculation on my part but I have this weird feeling that Lindholm really resented Huberdeau and the contract he got and that they just didn't get along at all.
The line Sutter had last year after Huberdeau was taken off Lindholm's line about how "Lindholm needs to like who he plays with" has always stood out to me.
Not really lost on me that Huberdeau had one of his best games as a Flame and a 3 point night in the first game post-Lindholm.

This is something that crossed my mind to. As soon as huby walked in the door the mood of the team seemed to change and i wonder if that contract was a huge source if angst from some of the players on expiring contracts?

Probably didn’t like seeing Huberdeau getting paid what he thought Johnny deserved.

Yeah ^ why can't I shake the feeling there were some resentments from/toward Lindholm within the team? Looked like a weight was lifted for Huby out there.
End of the day Lindy was good enough not to make a public fuss at least. But I don't think he was happy ever since his old linemates left.
If Lindy held that contract against Jonathan no wonder they never meshed out there.

I'm guessing it wasn't so much Lindholm holding Huberdeau's contract against Huberdeau. I think he was just pissed because he felt that he deserved a similar contract and Conroy clearly wasn't giving him one.

Wish I saw the game, sounded like an awesome one. Kadri has played great this year, i harped on him a lot last year but his work ethic has really improved. Nice to see.
I think all teams play better when there’s no expectations. This is where the Flames are, they can play loose. It matters. I also think it builds that “us against the world” mentality.
I’m happy they won. I still want Conroy to stick to the plan. They aren’t going to make playoffs and if they do they won’t do anything. Let’s build this correctly, we have such a huge opportunity right now. Monetize.

Well…that didn’t go according to plan.
Woke up, put the game on and one team was terrific and completely bossed the game throughout with speed, skill and tenacity.
But it was the team in white.
I’m going to enjoy my day.

What a game! The Bruins came out like it was going to be a casual skate after the all star break and ran into a Flames team ready to go. Gotta love making the Boston fans boo.
Was worried about Sharangovich centering the first line. The first line was great. Was worried about the new fourth line. The fourth line was great. Was worried about this new waiver defenceman. He was big and fast and perfect for the third pair.
There must have been something between Huberdeau and Lindholm. Huby took it to another level that we haven't seen in Calgary. The instant chemistry with Kuzmenko was glorious. Who would have guessed pairing Huberdeau with a skilled right handed shot would work out?
God damn I love to hate Marchand. Such a whiny little you know what. Of course he comes out on the power play after selling a 2 minute minor as a major.
Go Flames Go!

Funny - until the ATL I didn’t realize Forbort was a Bruin. I didn’t hear his name at all (TBF I was on a call and had the game muted in the 3rd).

When the Bruins scored in the 3rd to reduce the lead to 2-1 the momentum could’ve stifled the Flames, but then Huberdeau outmuscles a guy and buries the turnover. That’s the 10 million dollar player I hope we see more of in the coming 8 years. His chemistry with Kuzmenko right from the first shift was impressive to watch, it’s so much more entertaining than Sutter hockey from previous years.
Gotta love Hanifin blitzing down the wall on the PP and catching both Forbort and Swayman flat footed.
I love what Pospisil has brought to the team this season, his effort and walking the edge of discipline is a game disrupter that has been an advantage.
Another world class game by Markstrom while looking calm & in control between the pipes.

With the three least likely UFAs to sign already traded the Flames are in a very different spot than if they were sitting on all their UFAs and hoping to make the playoffs.
If they win a few now and get back in it just jump on the damn bandwagon. They've already downgraded their team three times and only have the two most likely guys to sign left on their roster.
No downside either way for me now.

I'd like to point out it ended up being 5-1 Flames . . . . The fifth goal is Edmonton getting denied an NHL record, on the same night the Flames looked their best all season.

Marky grew into the game. He was a fire drill in the first though. Haha, no harm done.

Only in puck handling I thought. Which was half on his Dmen anyway.

Didn't Huberdeau get paid what the Flames offered Johnny? And Johnny rejected?
