The difference between a broken stick or a stanchion is the ref or linesman is a person who should be able to get away from the play.

Plus a broken stick is sitting there stationary and players can play around it. It’s actually not allowed to move it into the play.

What could the official have done to avoid that play?

It is though. It could only be for if the deflection results in a goal. If a player tries to use it to get a stoppage then yeah the ref can decide to not blow it dead.

I'm not expecting them to change it. That doesn't mean they can't.

I think you’re missing the point. People wanting a rule change isn’t the result of a single goal against tonight. It’s the bigger picture of whether these types of goals should count. Doesn’t matter if it’s the Flames or any other team.

Johnny has only 6 more pts than Zary and 3 less goals. Took the retirement deal in one of hockeys smallest markets to just call it a day. What a waste of talent

Another lucky bounce, but Markstrom stops it.

I've been saying this for years so no it's not this game

Goals already don't count when they go directly off the ref so I'm sure they could waive it off if it goes directly off the ref to a guy who scores. We can have a debate without saying its all about fandom because it obviously isn't. I want the rule changed for the future, it will happen against the Flames too.

Well, how far back do we go in the play? The puck hits an official when the defense tries to clear the puck and the offensive team retains the zone. After 34 seconds of offensive zone pressure the team on offense scores a goal.

Should that automatically be called back? Is it more of the inconvenient nonsense we see on offside reviews?

It just seems like opening another can of worms while we can't figure out how we are eating worms in the first place.

Great shift by the Lindholm line. Hanifin with his patented play this season.

Except what's the lane? He seemed pretty well within his own positioning.
