Those two moping around the dressing room isn't gonna help build a winning culture/team

I doubt the Flames are going to be able to push out that much cap without taking contracts in return.
Given a high amount of teams are near the cap floor

Kadri can stay or someone can trade for him straight up.

Or, they could mutually agree to terminate his contract right?

I think if the Flames are gifted a get out of Kadri for free offer they would jump at it. If that is the Avs sending some contracts back our way and no retention I can see it happening. Kadri would be a decent add for a team in win now mode but nearing the end of their cycle.
Looking at HF there appears to be some appeal from Avs fans to bring him back

Honest question.

If I remember correctly, a lot of the trouble with the Avs came down to
1. Duchene quitting on the team / waiting for a trade to materialize.
2. a lot of injuries for key players, including both goalies.

I'm REALLY glad these reports are coming out now, in November. What I don't want to see is Conroy and co. holding onto all of these guys right up until deadline day and then running out of time before trading them all. Sounds farfetched, but was it last year or a few seasons ago when we heard that crap from Tre and the 960 guys that "welllll you can't just trade everyone on deadline day, there's a lot of moving parts, only so much time. Give these guys a break, they're working hard, blah blah blah"
The constant chatter about the Flames starting to "look long-term, re-tool/rebuild" are music to my ears. We have Lindholm on a fantastic salary just for this season, and THREE valuable defensemen to trade who each have unique traits (big physical, steady stay-at-home, great skating top-4) this is the best opportunity for the Flames to change their fortunes that I can remember since following the team. Next 3-4 months will be a roller coaster, let's hope Conroy can work some trade magic. I'll forgive that Toffoli trade if he pulls these next few trades off.
I think the order they should trade these guys in a perfect world is:
Tanev (Trade him before he blocks 14 straight slap shots to the ankle)
Zadorov - Let the value keep going up and wait for the offer you can't refuse
Lindholm/Hanifin - Wait as close to the deadline as you like, unless you get an offer that is too good to pass up
Other player(s)? - Bonus. Trade whenever it makes sense.

Disagree on Tanev - vets always look weaker, early in the season, then slowly take over as the season goes on. Tanev is going to look better as the season goes on, and he is the perfect type of player to add, for a team that wants to take a run.
At (or near) the deadline, Tanev will be a very attractive asset.

Tanev missed time last year - after the trade deadline. Before that he played 3 straight full seasons. His rep as being an injury risk is a bit overblown.

Resign Zad if the price is reasonable otherwise let him go. He’s going to age well like Chara and is still improving his game. I think we will be sorry down the road if he goes.

Trade them. They all can get injured anytime
Don’t give them away like Toffoli though

Sure, but he also blocks the most shots on the team, plays a hard-nose style and IMO is the most likely of any of our D to go down with an injury based on how he plays. So I think trading him first is pretty logical.

He has already asked for a trade.

The return would be better for Lindholm with retention and it would be a lot more doable for the Avs as far as cap goes.

Ya maybe but I don’t have a lot of love for the Avs assets and rather deal Lindholm to a team that wants to extend him and pay more of a premium. If the Avs step up then so be it but I am not seeing much in their prospect pool that gets me excited and their 1st is likely super late in the draft.

IIRC they're not too happy with Colton and Johansen thus far. I think with Johansen expiring next season they could stomach keeping him over Colton. Colton is Bennett-lite, perhaps he would be a guy that could center a line with Huberdeau?
Would easily do the Colton + Girard for Kadri + Vladar swap I suggested a couple of pages back. They need a decent goaltender to back up Georgiev. We get out of term, but do take on an expensive C/LW 3rd liner.

That would be an amazing return. If you couple it with the Leafs deal with Liljegren then all of a sudden next year you have Weegar, Andersson, Girard, Liljegren as Dmen which isn’t a terrible top 4.
I would take Johansen back if that was a deal they wanted to dump. A new center to try with Huby

I prefer Johansen over Colton, but I think they'd rather dump Colton who has 3 more years (2 more than Johansen) after this season ends. Whatever gets us to reduce that Kadri term, which would be 2 less years, and taking on Girard who being a disaster this year might be a blessing in disguise. I think he would do well with Andersson or Weegar.

I hope we start making moves right away. I understand the patience but if this team starts to go on a roll, I'm afraid the "direction" of the team may change again.

I would be okay with Colton for sure he can slot into the 3C spot while Backlund takes over as top C and Celebrini can start as the 2C

If the Flames retool Backlund is gone.
