I feel like we are applauding Huberdeau for very basic hockey plays when we need an elite player that creates something out of nothing. If Huberdeau can't be that, then the Flames are just fooling themselves trying to compete with this roster.
To me he's working hard but still looks like he's trying to play a game that isn't suited to him. Almost like he's over simplified his game and is still over focusing on playing a 200ft game and not making mistakes.
Which of course leads to mistakes and a lack of creativity.

I know a guy, who converted a lot more often than not.
That guy choose not to be here and he has 2 points in 3 games.
That guy had just as many detractors as Huberdeau did too during his 19-20 and 20-21 campaigns that weren't that great either.

Crazy that people want their franchise player making $10.5m to drive play. Fans are way too entitled!
I don't know what drive play means exactly. Possess the puck and dangle through guys? You want McDavid-lite?
He's been in the middle of things pretty consistently in three games and feeding some pretty nice setups (not as clean tonight obviously).
I'm ok if he's putting up 80+ points here while fitting into the system.
I don't think he was ever the prototypical "play driver" that many think of when they drop that term about a star.
And expecting him to do things he wasn't exactly doing in Florida is a bit unrealistic. So I'll take the offense and maybe not be ecstatic, but will be fine with it.
You're welcome to hold your own expectations, but sounds like it won't be a fun time and a long 8 years.
This is a team full of good support guys that know how to play a great team game and dominate their opponent. They play defense, they know how to move a puck, they're good at takeaways and battling fof 50/50 pucks, and they can create lots of pressure in the offensive zone.
But they don't have enough finishers.
All Swedish, no Finish as they like to say. Coronato will eventually be a good finisher, but he's a raw rookie. We lost Toffoli who's a pretty great finisher if not mediocre player in every other way, and we didn't really replace him.
It's going to be another frustrating year with good expected goals and nothing to show for it. If I'm Conroy, I get a king's ransom for the elite talent like Lindholm and Hanifin and rebuild by focusing on guys who can score.

The effort was there tonight (except Kadri) and I liked how they came out so strong.
The real issue is what many of knew coming into the season, they just don't have the high end skillset compared to most teams.
Those rankings that didn't have a single Flame in the top 100 players in the league were probably spot on.
Huberdeau has actually played decent, but at the level you'd expect to be the 3rd or 4th best forward on a contender. That's where out best players are compared the best players on really good teams and I don't see anyway it changes with the roster we have.
Play as hard as we did in the 1st and they will win games in spite of skill. But that takes so much dedication and relentless effort night in, night out that it's just not going to be there 60 minutes all the time.
We need those wins where your stars steal you one you don't deserve, or get you a big lead so you kill the game early. The Flames won't have many of those nights.
The same effort with more skill and this game is done and dusted after the 1st period, probably up 4-0.

Who can we pluck from the Finnish league to resolve this issue?
Played pretty well, deserved better. So many opportunities in the 3rd, you simply need to score on at least one of them.
Backlund open net on the PK
Coleman penalty shot
Power plays
..........you have to bury one of those. That Sharangovich shot in the shootout was unreal, what a release. Too bad it didn't go in. His crossbar and Kadri's post go in and there's your extra point.
Fun game though. Definitely not boring.
Forget the 3rd, there were 3 tap-ins in the first alone that they should have finished and didn't. They lost the game in the first by not going up 5-0 when they should have. Killer instinct is lacking in this group.

To be fair the issue tonight wasn't lack of scoring, but once we got to the shootout we came up short.
I thought the guys played a good overall game, but just couldn't put this one away. I totally agree with you we need more finishers we need another Johnny Gaudreau.
