For sure. To be honest I think even a dumb as nails coach requesting a scan of photos on a players phone where the player accepts the request gets him fired. Because a guy like Babcock can play dumb through something like that, and you have the player agreeing to the request.
Had to be more egregious, like him pressing after being denied of the request (using intimidation), or doing/saying something inappropriate while in possession of the player's property.

A phone is private and should not be controlled in any way by someone other than the owner.
It’s a black and white issue that everyone knows. Feigning naitivity and trying to protect motives is laughable.
Shame on cbs management and player leadership for not handling this.

I'm not totally convinced of this. Winning is everything in professional sports. If the players had all the same concerns and expressed them at the end of the year but Markstrom had a top 5 save percentage and we played two rounds of playoff hockey because of it, Sutter is still here, imo.
This was as much a performance failure firing as it was one of concern for the locker room culture and treatment of players.

The breach of privacy is a big ones doesn't matter if he wants to get to know players.
Not even a young player thing it could be a player has stuff on his phone that could out him and a coach forcing you to open your phone up how would that make someone feel.
Just dumb way to get to know someone and a real lack of respect for the person and their privacy.

I think the mental abuse and talk about physical altercation would not have been overlooked.
Like Babcock Sutter never should have had a job again after LA.
You rarely hear of a team wanting to fire a coach after 2 cups in 3 years.

If I were to read between the lines and guess, I'd imagine he was employing an age old bully coach tactic of winning the respect and trust of star players while abusing and mentally ****ing the replaceable players.
Kind of lines up with the stars defending him based on their interactions on the "show me your phone" meetings, while he was let go based on testimony from other players. For the stars it was probably smiles and respect with "Oh you had a baby, let me see!!". While the lesser/younger players likely got the more manipulative/abusive side of Babcock "Show me how your summer went, what's on your phone? Who's that? You party a lot? What else is on here? We need committed, clean players here, I don't like what I'm seeing. You're going to have to earn a spot on this team and this isn't a good start".

Yes, unfortunately team performance overshadows all in many cases.
But I also believe that even if the Flames performed well because they got the needed saves, if Sutter had say committed misconduct on the level of Babcock and the flames' brass caught wind of it, that he would be let go regardless of the season.
And I believe this because they did their due diligence with Peters and cut ties promptly in a season following a 2nd overall finish under his leadership.
But sure, if they saw the second round of the playoffs again last year, the Flames would be more inclined to let accounts of strained relationships between him and players in the room slide. But I also think they wouldn't turn a blind eye to those concerns if they were raised, either.

Yes, but in your comparison the big difference is Sutter and the Flames last season didn't have a huge public revelation of misconduct that blew up the hockey world like Bill Peters and Babcock had. What I'm saying is Sutter was fired because the Flames sucked and the players raised concerns over coming back next season with him. The combination was more about results in terms of it making sense to fire him.
I'm convinced that with Sutters transgressions last season and a playoff round win, we'd have Sutter coaching right now.

Did you miss the article by Lebrun?
You don't pay someone 8 million to go away after a bad season and missed saves.

I just took a series of screenshots to guide you through the process then I remembered you can't upload pictures directly here so...
When you're in tapatalk, exit all the way out to your main page (this is the one where you select Calgarypuck, idk if you have other forums or just this one). Click the profile icon in the top right (image of a person).
On the profile section there is an option for settings. Click it.
The first section of settings is general, and signature is the fourth option. Click on signature.
In the signature settings there is a simple on/off switch in the top right. Click it once and boom, no more "sent from my device using tapatalk"!

I would think Rick Nash ascends to the GM throne. But he could have been a big Babs supporter. Doesn’t mean he is like him but if the owner cleans house, Nash might not get a look.
