Then don't visit and don't move there everyone wins. For some reason more people are moving to Texas than any other state I'm sure you'll tell me all those people are horrible in one way or another. And naturally you're far above them in every way.

All that stuff is horrible, but you're sounding so stereotypical about other places. There are a lot of lovely people in Texas.

The bottom line is, I hold conservative values, and I'm voting for that ideology, not an individual.
Should the democratic process put the NDP in power, so be it. That's the will of the people and I'll accept it. I'm not going to move to Texas. I'm not gonna side eye my NDP supporting neighbour, insult him, or question his intelligence. I'll still lend him my ladder to put up his Christmas lights, wave to him in the morning and let his kid play with my Daschund.
We are allowed to have different opinions and values, without painting each other as human feces or psychopathic animals for having different values and ideologies. Something many people on this board really need to learn, on both sides.

I imagine this is where most of Trump's support comes from in the States, conservatives voting on policy over person. Makes sense... only thing I would debate on is by voting for Smith it validates her leadership style. If she wins she gains strength... the party won't dump her after winning an election, they'll follow her lead, and the insane nonsense she says could start to become realized. Same thing as the states, when you elect nutty leaders it creates a mandate of nuttiness for the whole party. The vote you thought you were giving to your good ol' UCP could be the same vote that ruins it.

In 2023 I truly struggle to see the words conservative and value next to each other in a sentence. Danielle Smith is the recently elected leader of that party and has taken MAGA tactics as nothing but suggestions.

You honestly think Smith will go away? She will see a victory tonight as an official mandate for carte blanche Wildrose chicanery, and Take Back Alberta will gleefully puppet master her all the way the way through the legislature.
You're about to be hoodwinked my friend, and Albertans are going to pay the price.

I think Houston's been Democrat 30 years.
Smith is going nowhere if she wins, you're looking at 4 to 8 years.

It's the most diverse city in America. Some people just enjoy saying bad things about the state.

Ditto for Austin, NYC, Chicago, Boston, San Fran, LA, Seattle etc. Most Major metropolitan areas tend to be Dem.
Meanwhile, Republicans have sprawling beautiful cities like.. Coeur D'Alene Idaho, Rapid City South Dakota, Great Falls Montana.

I also voted UCP. But it was a vote for my current MLA, not for Danielle Smith.
Unfortunately, for some, that can't be separated in their logic and I accept that.
I honestly hope the NDP win a majority to teach TBA and chuds like Smith a lesson. But I fear that won't happen.

I'm at work today, and have about 5 hours of work to get done in the next 2, so I wouldn't even be able to scratch the surface. But in reality, why does it matter to you? I have made my choice, and some random stranger on a message board, isn't going to sway my opinion.
Regardless of what happens, I'll accept the results and move on with my life. And maybe if I get a minute or ten, I'll oblige and lay out why I voted UCP and not NDP since I seem to have forgotten to ask your permission exercise my voting rights without explaining it to you first.

If you're hoping for an NDP majority win to stick it to Smith, why wouldn't you vote for them then? Voting for your local candidate is really just a vote for, and a consent for, a Smith mandate.

Voting to get her UCP elected really is going to teach her a lesson.

It's possible that the NDP campaign team in your riding is getting a head start on removing lawn signs. Maybe they had extra volunteers hanging around today and told them to go start collecting signs.

I’m not going to criticize. When you like the local member but not the party, the Westminster system gives you a really tough choice, and there are pros and cons for sure.
Ric McIver was blasted a while ago for apparently telling voters at the door that he would work to get rid of Smith if they voted for him. And that may have been an awkward message but it has a weird grain of truth: if the UCP loses a pile of seats, keeps enough to retain its majority, AND the seats it loses are moderate members who might oppose Smith in the caucus, the weird result is that she is stronger even though her party is theoretically “weaker.” And you only need a majority of one, so she probably won’t even care that much. Not having to deal with as big a number of moderate UCPers probably just solves a problem for her.
Unfortunately that’s also my prediction for how this is going to go.

Yup. I can get the party over leader with most party leaders but Smith is not one of them. Although DeSantis and American politics are terrifying to me and I think this will bring more of that #### into Canada if Smith pulls this off.

Oh hell no. That sign has been on my front line for long enough that it’s mine now.
Those campaign volunteers can pry my NDP sign out of my cold, dead hands.
