He took Gulutzan on a hike and either convinced him to take the head coaching job or pushed for him to get it. Either way, bad juju.

Conroy hiked the grouse grind with Gulutzan during Gulutzan’s interview process. It was one of the reasons the Flames hired him after that meeting went well.

Good news is Calgary Puck can continue to complain endlessly about poor coaching hires.

It’s great to see good people get rewarded. Conroy has been everything this team could ask for and then some. I’m happy for him and can’t wait to cheer him on as he makes his mark on the franchise.

Tre was, by all accounts, a great person…and in my opinion, one of the best GMs that we have had. Conny has learned a ton throughout his time as AGM and is ready made to take over this role.

I expect Conny will bring stability to a team that has been going through unbelievable upheaval since last off season. Conny is his own man. He learned under Tre but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his own vision for the future.

So was Treliving when the Flames hired him.

I guess depending on how you feel about Treliving, that could be making your point.

Personally, I like this hire. I’m glad they didn’t go with the other guys mentioned anyway. It’s hard to think of anyone who has been more dedicated to this team for the past 20 years.

I would prefer a new perspective on the team. I suppose time will tell if anything changes.

While I’m not enamoured with the hire as I don’t see an internal hire as the best choice out there to correct the aging player contract mess, I do respect Conroy the human and really hope he can figure it all out. I think the organization must surround him with the best mentorship and support system possible.

I would like to give Craig the benefit of the doubt for bit longer than the three hours or so we have known he is the GM. He is a well educated, knowledgeable, experienced executive that deserves some time to show fans what he can do. This trashing by some of you before he speaks a word..wow. let's not give him a chance. I, for one, am extremely happy for him. And, to help encourage a bit of positivity, he certainly is the best looking GM in NHL history, so there is that.

Now you're getting into Dave Nonis territory.

I hope Conny’s first act as GM is to put down on paper the best deal that can possibly offer Elias and send it over to his agent. If Lindy doesn’t sign it within a couple of weeks, he needs to be moved.

That is one way to put his stamp on the team and manage our assets effectively.
