I believe it's to have them worn and autographed to auction off.

The organization has generally been fairly forward thinking about these types of issues, but this one in particular owes a lot to Brian Burke (in and outside of Calgary).

I noticed a change in how the CSEC engages with the community during/after his tenure here.

This cause is obviously important to him, but he also talked about in book that community service is mandatory when he brings players in.

And in the same book he noted that of all places he had been, Calgary was the one he had to do the least in, as it had the strongest community endeavours of any team. Long before Burkie arrived each player did community service here.

I don't understand the connection. They have washing machines. The jerseys can't be laundered after the game?

FWIW the Inferno had amazing Pride coloured jerseys which were worn during the game and then auctioned off afterwards.

Not every player plays but they all skate in warm up.

Again, I don't see the connection. They can still make a jersey for a scratched player.

Are they worried some schmo is going to be upset that the jersey he donated money towards, didn't actually touch the ice????

Again, the scratched Infernos still had Pride and DIFD jerseys made up and auctioned off.

The Blackhawks are cancelling their pride jerseys due to worries about the Russian players.

I don't know if I buy that. Couldn't those players just sit out the warmup?

'Security concerns'? So, now what some arse -backwards people in Russia believe in dictates what we do over here. That is so sad, and pathetic.

Lol, what a crock.

Just admit you don't want the headache of having to deal with potential bigots either on your roster or within the NHL fanbase.

Too bad a group of selfish members had to ruin the other thread because I still think this overall trend of exclusion is worth discussing.

Should we ban Russian players due to security risks to the league?

I’ve seen Obie wearing warmups honouring the US military. Surely that would be more offensive to the Russian government.

If the Blackhawks simply didn’t want to do a Pride night, they should have just not done it. But to come out and say it’s because of security concerns for Russian players, has to be some sort of grade A p*ssy stuff.

Since when does some laws in an authoritarian regime dictate the policies of a professional hockey club and what events they put on? They didn’t have any issue having a night showing support for Ukraine. Just some very strange logic applied here and fed to the public. I hope they get raked over this.

What do you expect form the franchise that didn't punish anyone for using homophobic slurs against a sexual assault victim.

That's a bad look for the NHL and the Hawks.

####ing Russia dictating from 10,000 kms away what we should be doing? Get out of here.

This kind of stuff is way more important than the pride night stuff.

I like things like pride night, but they're marketing events as much as anything else. Of course a business wants everyone to feel comfortable being their customer, but it doesn't mean they care about everyone being treated fairly. If they won't support people in cases of real harm, they don't really care.

I've been part of many multinational organizations and involved in these initiatives. However, these were clearly voluntary. There was never a fuss or any question created around someone's participation or lack thereof. That's how we thought we were fostering a truly inclusive environment. There were never any issues.

Now- sports team- why can't it be voluntary? Teams/League should just state participation is voluntary. There ends the argument (atleast in my head).

This whole situation of entire teams deciding not to do it is more harmful than a handful of players not doing it. And those players that don't do it shouldn't be subjected to answer to media or anyone. It's ridiculous. It's like if my coworkers who didn't participate had to stand in front of the management team on Monday morning for a flogging in front of the entire world. That's crazy to me.

I don't like the fact that people are saying he has a freedom only as long as he agrees with them.

Provorov has the freedom the skip pride night if he wants. Just like everyone else has the freedom to criticize his antiquated views.

This isn’t hard.
