wow...their GM is probably pulling his hair out, he has been planning for Bedard for 3 years.
Their late run just gets them a worse pick like the Canucks, they will be a bottom feeder again next year I would bet a large amount of money on it.

The Coyotes haven't really been in the bottom 3 all season long. I'd rather have a team in 27th with a ton of kids lighting it up than a team in 30th where everyone is miserable. If they were really that desperate to bottom out completely they'd have moved Vejmelka and Schmaltz at the TDL.
Nevertheless, that's all immaterial to the points being made about Valimaki. He's playing excellent hockey with very little help. The Flames need to do a bit of introspection about how they bungled their handling of him to the point of his near-complete demoralization.
And, even as someone who was critical of his play last season, this ...

... is not even close to true. Regardless of the fact that there are good players on every NHL team, the 'Yotes aren't even close to being the worst team in the league — and certainly not of late. And he was never even remotely a candidate to go to the ECHL, that's an absurd concept.

Ridiculous, that non-real NHL team has been better than the flames since Valimaki got there and he's now playing #1D minutes, he was a 1st rounder for a reason.
Admit it or not, it's looking more and more like the Flames made a huge mistake with him, Sutter is a clown when it comes to his treatment of young players, if he's dumb enough to sign here just watch him ruin Coronato.

…both options seem better than being the 17th or 18th best team.
The Flames have a lot of work to do around how they conduct business - not just with how they handle prospects - but at all levels. The approach is just wrong. We’re an expensive, old team with a bottom-half/third prospect pool. This is pretty much the worst spot to be in.

People are rightfully mad at Huberdeau, but Kadri has been far worse IMO. Total anchor to whoever he plays with for the last ~30 games. I think that's the worst contract in the league starting next season. Should have kept Monahan.

No, Valimaki is the one to blame here. What did he expect? A ton of leash on a team that has had winning aspirations? The guy had a bad attitude when he was sent down to work on his game. Instead of working hard, he pouted and complained. Entitlement at its finest. Good riddance.

This is important to remember
At the time, what was the other choice besides waving him?
It’s great for him that he’s doing well now
But, again, he’s on a no pressure team, playing number one minutes
Even now, he wouldn’t crack the top 6 on this team
Unfortunate/untimely injury, not exactly the greatest attitude and being passed on the depth chart sealed his fate here.
Sometimes things happen

Seattle is plummeting. Goes and checks the standings. 6-3-1 in their last ten. Uh yeah they’re sure plummeting.

Well I guess the chances of Duehr, Pelletier, and maybe Coronato being with the Wranglers to start the playoffs is looking decent.
Weegar in the past while has looked quite good. But the team itself continues to just be missing something that let's it break out of its current cycle.

Yeah hoping for other teams to plummet is never a good thing
The Flames actually need multiple teams to plummet, not just one

They are 1-3-1 in their past 5. Grubauer left the game yesterday and they goaltending like Calgary's has been questionable this year.
For a lot of the season they had the best shooting percentage in the league. So if they revert to average, the goaltending stays mediocre they might fall back. But at this point the Flames need a collapse by them, and I doubt that happens. If Seattle finishes 4-6-4 type of thing I don't think the Flames could catch them.

I wish he would stop with the temper tantrums and look himself in the mirror. That was another dreadful performance, and once again cost the game for them. When the other goalie lets in 5 goals, your team significantly outshoots the opponent (again), and your team has overcome 2 2-goal deficits, that is a game your goalie needs to win. He has been awful this year. With league average goaltending this team would be comfortably in a playoff position.
Pretty much all my anger and dissatisfaction with this team is directed at Markstrom. Cost them the playoff BOA last year, cost them the playoffs this year, and costing them $6M while doing it.

I’d say our real superstars are Lindholm, Toffoli, Anderson and Backlund.
Kadri and Huberdeau are just the highest paid.

At different times in the last month+ different teams have been “plummeting”. Seattle, Winnipeg, Minnesota.
You still have four teams battling for 2 spots. And points percentage wise, Flames solidly in fourth in that group.
