He (Oettinger) looked so normal last night, I'd have to go back and look to but all I have from that series are memories of how tough he was to beat lol
He was in the zone 100% of the time that series. It was fun to watch as much as it was frustrating.

He was tough to beat. Calgary showed a lot of fortitude in that series. Then they completely fell apart from goalie to forwards. The high scoring game 1 that they won somehow gave Edmonton confidence.
All about the Jets now, and see what they do with a tough schedule coming up. The Jets burned a game against a weakling last night, the Flames took a tough one off the list.
Calgary 5th easiest schedule.
Winnipeg 23rd
Unlikely as it is ... hope they make it interesting.
My big fear was giving up a first on the bubble and missing altogether or out in 8 days. That's safe now. Not too fussed between picks 12 and say 15.

Great ending and great goal.
Has been so few emotional highs like that this season.
Whatever happens with the rest of the season, it was at least great to get a moment like that.
The other thing with Huberdeau is he often looks like he's making a pass, then immediately moving in anticipation of getting the puck back for a nice little combination play.
Kadri receives a pass, then immediately shoots or drives the net. They just look so far from being complimentary players.

You are right that Winnipeg is the likeliest team to catch. But even that seems very unlikely based on what we've seen up to this point from this group. No killer instinct all season long.

Kadri also fumbles a ton of passes.
Kadri and Huberdeau haven't worked together and I think that it boils down to what you said above and Kadri's mishandling of the passes from Huberdeau. I don't know if it's his anticipation for the pass of if he is too focused on driving to the net or shooting immediately. I can't put my finger on it but every game he seems to fumble passes from Huberdeau whereas Pelletier for exemple often cleanly handles them.

I guess ... though not sure how you define killer instinct.
This team shows up for most games, never quits, puts a boatload of pucks on the net and grinds away.
Some games they don't get enough bang for buck out of their scoring chances (can't finish), other games they don't get the save ... sometimes both.
I think they're very consistent ... but part of that consistency has been a consistent lack of finish and a consistent lack of goaltending.
I have little doubt they will try and reel in Winnipeg ... have my doubts they can up their team shooting and save percentage to break year long trends to do it.

This was a good game. Still some trouble holding 3rd period leads, but I mentioned at the trade deadline that this was a good team that had no swagger. That they were the least clutch team I'd seen.
Last night was a game that could generate swagger. Last night they finally showed some clutch.
It may be too little to late, and it may be a race to the 16th overall pick but it is nice to see.

What I mean by lack of killer instinct is the inability to close out a game if they are up by 1 or 2 in the 3rd. I don't have the stats but I feel like they've blown a ton of those leads instead of clamping down and closing out.

But even if you filter by game situation to "Within 1" they 3rd in the NHL in xGF% in a grouping of Carolina, NJ, Calgary, Boston and Toronto.
It's not like they're taking their foot off the gas when the game is tight.
It's a freak season.
Even in just HD splits they are 10th in the league when the game is within one.
This team is a lot of things when it comes to execution, but I don't see any real proof of a lack of effort, or a group that wilts under pressure.
Just not getting it done.
