Huberdeau isn't going anywhere. Sutter leaves before .player you just committed 90 million to.

Im not sure it would be. The return would be lousy, but it wouldn't be a boat anchor coming back the other way. You just need one GM who thinks the flames are mismanaging a franchise asset. And the low price does the rest.
Imagine if you could get a 100pt per season player for next to nothing? What GM doesn't want that?

I don't know either but I have heard a lot of players saying it's tough playing in a Canadian market. If his agent is looking for excuses...
I know one thing, Sutter isn't going to change lines because an agent made a tweet.

I don’t want Huberdeau traded. He’s an elite forward who clearly is in a funk with a new team, new coach. He can be much better offensively. And with a new coach I think we’d see that.
This team shows no emotion, not having fun, boring to watch.
Sutter has a short shelf life. We’re at it. Question is, how much longer will they keep him around? This ain’t working.

There should be a number of those out there.
I wonder how many teams would trade for Sutter? Like how many teams would rather have the great Darryl Sutter as their coach than their current coach? Maybe approach Darryl and see if we can do that to help complete the unfinished business he spoke about a long time ago.

Well then why are we making the trade if we're getting rid of him for a bag of pucks? How does it help the organization other than to reduce payroll? He's not that much of a cancer we need him out at any cost. It doesn't speed up our rebuild. We're not signing any big ticket UFAs with the freed up money (or at least I hope we aren't).

Sure. If you think the problem is the coach. But if you think the problem is the player or team construction, then you move the player.
Say you fire Sutter and keep Huby...and you're wrong. Then you have to put up with this dog #### for 8 more years. And that's not a risk worth taking.

If Darryl stays, and Tre goes, we likely wind up with that Duhatschek fantasy trade from a few weeks back. if Darryl goes, Tre stays, maybe we see a resurgence next year. Probably will. actually.

A lot of players are on a contract year next season so I'm expecting a big year.

Also its the Flames upswing year in their 1 good, 1 bad cycle. Throw in a new coach and watch them win the division again.

It would probably be Hubredeau for Josh Anderson and Brendan Gallagher

Sutter is perfect for this team, a mediocre over the hill coach who is collecting a paycheque. He never takes responsibility and tries nothing new.

It seemed a bit weird at the time when Sutter got his extension before Treliving but I remember just thinking that Treliving would probably shortly follow...but nope.
I wouldnt be at all surprised if there was a power struggle going on behind the scenes.
Also the Walsh comments are interesting because he knows how this would come off due to Huberdeau's struggles this year. He knows the fan base has been all over Huberdeau and no happy with his play. He knows the fan base at times has high praise for Sutter. And yet he still went this route...which is risky to do with a player not livinh up to expectations at all.
This isn't a Fleury situation where the player was beloved by the fan base.

If Darryl gets tossed how long before the new coach is called a big meanie, or is too soft? Seems to happen every other year with these players.

The Flames only have one player on the roster who played more than 10 games for the team 5 seasons ago. This is a completely different group of guys.
Darryl has taken a brand new group of individual assets and now they are clearly a team that is much less than the sum of their parts.

These players? The old core of Monahan, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Gio, Brody, etc. aren't even on the team. The Sutter coaching method has always had a short shelf life but it's even shorter with today's players as the taskmaster, bully style of head coach is becoming less prominent.

How about firing both of them? Treliving first, then the new GM fires Sutter at the end of the year. The franchise needs a reset from top to bottom.
