Not sink the team, but play bad enough where he loses the net so Vladar can be the hero.

I guess it all comes down to how you interpret the "see told you! crowd when Markstrom has a loss.
Seems like some joy there to me, no?

Maybe it deserves its own thread but the Markstrom buyout structure is super interesting

There were questions about his size but he's got elite instincts and was considered the best goal scorer in the draft. Newhook also has very high end offensive abilities in terms of his hockey sense, skating and ability to make plays.
I'm not going to break down each guy, but they all are better offensive players than Pelletier, who is more of a good all around player, with a strong level of compete. He's got a lot of strong attributes but isn't elite in any one thing.
I like Pelletier a lot. And I think he's ready to be given a look.
But those guys are in the NHL ahead of him because they are more than likely stronger players. Frankly I think the Avs have done a disservice to Newhook, not by playing him in the NHL, but giving him a little too much responsibility too soon. They considered him to be the replacement for Kadri and I don't think he's ready for that.“
And I stand behind that

Absolute best part of the game for me was watching the SK stream and hearing those not-even-trying-to-hide-it homer announcers go all in for the goal that got called back. As soon as the refs made the announcement of a review, instead of immediately talking about the play, they chatted for a while on how the Flames were at risk of getting a penalty if the review was overturned. Yes, that's true. But very strange thing to focus on at the moment.
The review was clear as day there was interference. But nope, not for them. Overheard clearly showed the SK player skating right into Vladar, and they tried their best to pin it on Mangiapane. Then hilarious comments about how the goal was legal because the player has "no control over their inertia, no control over their momentum". To top it off, they finished with how the player has "every right to follow through" by pushing the goalie in. I'm paraphrasing a bit, but that is pretty much what they said; a player has the right to follow through with hitting the goalie to score.
Pure excitement in their voices when the Kraken scored. Pure dejection and boredom when the Flames scored.
Great win by the team, but felt just as good to stick it to those announcers.

Yes, my god those announcers were terrible. They said that the collision didn't impact Vladar's ability to stop the puck. Wtf.
Also the too many men penalty was so blatant, still the other dude was like "yeah, I don't know about that one". Like COME ON, would you like to even try to hide your bias? And on top of those homers, the camera man gave me motion sickness.

I don’t think that’s the case though. The games just look different.
Seattle - Calgary got off to a kind of meh start but came on over the period. Vladar was meh as well, but got super strong in the second and third.
Chicago - Markstrom was just fine in period one and his team sucked. But they were tied. Then the team continued to suck and a few goals against happened.
In a whole lot of games Markstrom and the team are fine off the hop, but the team doesn’t score. Then the team decides to have complete breakdowns and a goal is scored. Then the team crumbles and Markstrom hasn’t been able to save them. I don’t think Vladar has ever been in that position where he has had to bail out the team. At least I don’t recall one.
I suppose it could be that Vladar has gotten the benefit of some guilty play by the team after a bad loss (like last night).

So a guy that was runner up for the vezina last year should be bought out after a struggle through the first 60% of the next season?
You might be a little quick on that trigger.

I saw it as well can't remember who.
Flames fans do a good job under rating our prospects while wishing we had other teams same type of prospects.
We have done a reasonable job drafting it's time we show the league what we have.

I think fans of most teams tend to overrate their own prospects, especially first rounders. Gotta keep hope alive. At the same time, I think it's natural to also pine for what other teams have drafted and developed. Grass is always greener.

Three years isn’t enough for you? Not a small sample size on Markstrom as a flame
It’s important not to forget the one regular season he played up to (and above) his cap hit he had an absolute implosion at the worst possible time for the team and hasn’t looked the same since.
So no, I don’t want another three years of the player, don’t think a trade partner is possible given his play and contract, and think buyouts are a pretty underutilized tool in general.
But there would be other factors to consider as well. Where is the cap going? Who will split the net with Vladar? Is Vladar ready long term?

Considering one was a short season where he was the MVP until he got hurt and IMO was rushed back to try and save the season it kind of is. He's really only had one full season as a Flame.
