No thanks, I don't want players from the last place team in the league. They probably don't give a ####

But the blame he's taking in here is masking some really really bad team defense the past 6 games. Lots of players getting to the front of the net far too easily.

And yes, Eat Bread, Dube, and a bunch of others have to start scoring. The offense has been sputtering as well.

Basically, it's a combination of things that's hurting this team right now. Easy to put all or most of the blame on the goalie for that last goal, but man the problems are lot bigger than that. Need improvements everywhere. Especially team defense.
The Flames gave up 6 high danger chances all game and they had five penalties including a long 5 on 3. How much protection does Markstrom need to win a game?

Every team has defensive breakdowns in a game. The difference is almost every defensive breakdown ends up in the Flames net.

I don't disagree with any of your assessment about the team in front of him. We have issues that need to be figured out but one big issue in that is Markstrom. Is it too much to expect your high paid goaltender to win you a game or at least not lose one for you?

It has to be scored from centre ice for Hrudey to really say it was bad. Most you get is him saying the goalie "would like that one back". I mean, he's a goalie, so he sticks up for his peeps.

Holy over exaggeration, no it doesn't.

Saying that the goalie would like that one back IS saying he thought it was a bad goal.

I’m not even that mad. Tree gambled in the summer and it didn’t pay off yet (and who knows it might not turn out). This league is built on impact players who score goals. We don’t have any of those right now. Huby looked like a good acquisition, and even if he finds his game, we still don’t have any snipers to put the puck in the net.

This isn’t 04 where you could grind out wins. Also doesn’t help that there is no Kipper saving the day with heroic saves. Markstrom is playing very poor hockey at the moment and I don’t think you’ll see much of a rebound from him. Might be time to ride with Vladar and see how that plays out.

At the end of the day it doesn’t look like this team was built properly. Our advantage at the D position isn’t as advertised and upfront we have too many bottom 6 players expected to contribute and light the lamp. Throw in some questionable coaching decisions and this is where we’re at. Of course there is still time to turn this around but the hole keeps on getting deeper.

I thought it was a good shot. I don't want to be a blame the goalie guy when we had a big coverage breakdown leading to 3/4 breakaway ending up in the net and our forwards couldn't score more than 2 goals, and had 8 minutes to tie it up.

Thought the Flames played well. Devils had the better goaltending but Markstrom had some big saves as well. The Flames just can’t seem to get that key goal when they need it and watching the game you almost expect something to go wrong. With that said very optimistic watching this game as the effort was there, thought they out played the Devils and they seem to be heading the right direction.

No it doesn't. You don't need to exaggerate to make a point. He can be better, yes. That 3rd goal was not good.

But the team defense is so much worse than last season it's actually shocking.

Look, things aren’t going very well for the Flames right now but at least we can appreciate that Rory Kerins! just scored his first goal in the AHL!

There’s no way this season the team is doing as good a job defensively as last season and 6 high danger chances sounds about 2-3 too many for a “really good defensive team” or one that was touted in the offseason as having one of the best D’s in the league.

6 high danger chances means a chance of 6 goals. That’s not good. Then there’s the eye test and the chances and opportunities for opponents this season has been insane. Wide open shots and point blank chances all game routinely. It’s ridiculous actually.

It's the mythical 20 game mark that Peter Maher mentioned like two decades ago and somehow became gospel. In modern NHL if you're dog#### for the majority of 20 games, generally your season is over.

20 games for a team to gel with the new faces.

Not 19 and not 21.

Get it? (Probably not, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.)

But hey you do you! (Did I do that right?)
