I miss the atmosphere in the Corral in the 70s - if it was loud it was because the game was exciting. No stimulation required.
No goal songs. You could hear hecklers. Sometimes an organ. It was more than enough.

Because if we don't do all this then someone who's just been to Vegas to watch the VGK says "why can't we have the same kind of fun here that they have there" and we find ourselves in one of the seven rings of hell.
The whole atmosphere stuff has taken on a life of its own lately and it's just the way of the world

I encourage everyone to see a game in Europe. Much better experience.

(Don’t know that guys name and really don’t want to)

To this day, I don’t know his first name. Lol

Also, fyi, the sound is way down compared to last week. Even Grant isn’t cracking the db meter

Last night was awesome in the PL. If anybody from the Flames reads this it was perfect (imo).
Fun Grant story... super nice guy. Last season they had me do the giant drum before a game so I got to chat with him. He had an earpiece in but something was malfunctioning and it would periodically blast him with an incredibly loud tone (that I obviously couldn't hear). So you'd be conversing with him and out of nowhere he'd look like he got shot and scream "F***!" right in your face. Followed very closely by "Oh god... I'm so sorry... you see what's going on is–F***!". It was highly entertaining.

Look if you're getting to play the drum you have to do with the odd expletive in your face. Thus is life of a rockstar.

Thanks. I know years ago it was a guy named Christian doing that and he was solid, not always screaming. I was curious if he was still around and just changed his style or if it was someone else now

Alan. Great guy. I don't mind his delivery. Almost always reserved for intros and goal announcements. It's the between-the-whistles screaming that makes me feel old.

The new screaming guy is worse than Steve Strachan! Does anyone actually enjoy that obnoxiousness?

For a minute during the last few games I thought that Strachan was back... cringe.

Because he doesn't have a classic, deep PA announcer voice, so he compensates by being VERY LOUD AND EMPHATIC!!! Agreed it's annoying. I find that more in Canadian rinks, U.S. arenas seem to do a better job of just hiring someone with a classic, professional announcing voice who talks normally and lets his natural baritone do the work.
Pet peeve of mine when sports teams hire arena announcers who don't have this, and thus have to have the energy cranked up to 11 to compensate.
