Found some posts with people asking about the same thing. It sounds like there might be a rule that no more than half of players can advance from a group, unless there is a tie. So even though it is set for two to advance from each group, a group of 3 will only have one person advance. According to people on the chess.com forums, anyway. Haven't found it in the actual rules or FAQ.

That's ok if it is the case. A 3 person final is fitting.

Chess is hard. In one move I could have had a huge advantage or suffer a crushing defeat.

Not a big deal either way, the tournaments on that site make little sense to me. I'm still in a daily tournament from 2 months ago that hasn't gone past the first round because people perma vacation mode

That’s super annoying. Why sign up for a tournament and then not play in it??

It’s such a brutal game, isn’t it? You can play almost perfectly for 30 moves and lose your advantage in a single move sometimes.

Yeah, it looks like it must be one person per group. We should definitely do a consolation bracket this time!
Group 3 is not decided yet, though someone needs to find a win against 72UCI, who can probably advance with a draw.
Still don’t know which CP user that is.

How are you guys getting though these daily games so quickly? Shouldn't they take like a month? A 100 move game with an intense end game could take half a year!
Anyways, sounds fun, I'll sign up next time.

Just because it's a daily time control doesn't mean you have to wait that long to make your move, haha. If you both happen to be online at the same time, it can go pretty quick.
The last tournament stretched on quite a while because of the 3 day per move control so that some games finished in a day and others in a month.

Speaking of long games here is one of my favourite losses. Very instructive with the bishop knight mate. After the last pawn capture I needed to last 50 moves for a draw. Made it to 34.

I think what I learned from watching that is FireGilbert is a VERY solid chess player. Hopefully you can join the next tournament!

The only thing worse than my chess this week is the Flames Powerplay.

The final round is underway.
Should be a competitive pool of three.

Watch out for 72UCI's pawn play - it's exceptional!
Should we get the "losers bracket" going? I've got a chess itch with these games!
Also, wondering about those people with a premium membership - what level do you have and why? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure which one offers the best value.

It shouldn't take this group more than a few days to finish up and we can have a big tournament again.
I pay for Gold, you get best value only if you like doing Puzzles and going make an evaluating games.

I tried the membership and we'll see how it goes. I thin kit's pretty expensive (just my opinion, and I'm pretty cheap!), but I also think it's helped me make some improvements. I really only play IFF on there, and would love to add some others though, if anyone is down for some random games!

I’m still curious about who 72UCI even is. No one has fessed up. Seems to be a pretty strong player though!
