Almost, Phillips. He's been good in the third

Pelletier needs more shifts like that 5-on-5

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Eakin. With Lewis and Rooney, the Flames have a surplus of those kind of players. I'm sure Jones can give those kinds of minutes if injuries happen too.

It's fun watching Phillips in this situation where he can try and generate offense. His line is the best for the Flames tonight... Too bad they haven't buried.

Kraken did a great job of collapsing to the front of the net and the Flames just couldn't penetrate.

I get it’s a road pre-season game but I don’t love playing 2 actual NHLers tonight (Dube and Vladar), I guess 5 if you include Milano, Eakins, and Ruzicka but two of those guys don’t even have contracts.

Give Phillips, Pelletier, and Zary some game time with actual NHLers, at the very least it’s a good learning experience for them.

The good news is those guys still managed to stand out a little, bad news is opportunity was tougher to come by because you just don’t have enough of the puck when playing against an NHL roster with a mostly AHL team (especially the defence that handled the puck like a grenade for 45 minutes)

Good puck movement, no finish. That's too bad. Young guys vying for forward spots had a big chance tonight.

I think Mackey looked better than Valimaki.

I only watched a bit of the game. Who was the biggest standout for the Flames most of the game?

Impressive:
Vladar - really solid. No issue with either goal and think he was interfered with on the first one.

Phillips - quieter first two periods, but was the most determined player to score in the third. Generated a handful of chances when they needed goals and battled well.

Mackey - just doesn't make many mistakes and does so much well. A big hit and calm play.

DeSimone - was mentioned a bunch on the broadcast. Played well with the puck and was decent defensively too.

Zary - carried the puck so well. Always involved. Reminded me of Kadri actually.

Meloche - really good, I thought. Skates well, competes hard and plays smart with the puck.

Not so good:

Ruzicka - really rough second half of the game. Lots of turnovers and looked frustrated.

Valimaki - still doesn't look ready to force his way into a spot. Had good and bad moments but not one of the better D tonight.

The rest, meh.

On defence I liked Mackey’s game tonight.
