While much of the heat was placed firmly on Karla throughout the hour — and with good reason! — Jesse couldn’t help but worry that he might be viewed as second fiddle sitting next to Cody. Why, you ask? Because Cody concocted a pretty damn genius plan to trick Karla into not using her idol at Tribal Council. The pitch: If Cody and Karla used their idols as a bullying tactic of sorts, they could get Owen, Gabler and Cassidy to vote however way they wanted, then save their idols for next week’s Final 5 vote.
Clever, Cody! And it could’ve worked had Jesse not been the strategic mastermind that he is. Knowing that Karla’s blindside would’ve made Cody the clear frontrunner of the season, he took Jeanine’s idol (you know, the one everyone thought was flushed when Dwight left the game) and played it on Owen. This spooked Karla into playing hers, while Jesse, Gabler, Cass and Owen placed their votes squarely on Cody.
Brilliant move by Jesse and a great episode! Finale next week!

Yes I believe that’s exactly what happened. Ruthless, but well played.
Still no clue why Cody didn’t just keep his own idol??? Stupid.
That is such an unreal play by Jesse probably one of the best this games ever seen. Guaranteed final 4, no one deserves to win this more guys puppet mastered this entire season. flushed out Karlas idol too just incredible game play. If Karla gets booted next episode he should win by shutout no ones even close

I think he used Cody's idol to really twist that knife like a stone cold assassin. I am not sure why Cody kept giving it to him. Perhaps it was some weird brotato trust ritual or fear of someone playing a knowledge is power card?
Using Cody's idol also keeps his remaining 'Jeanine idol' completely hidden for the next round. I Imagine he'll happily take all the votes against him next episode so he can play the idol and effectively pick whoever he wants to punt with his one vote. A masterful play and best I've seen in over a decade.

Cody had to give it back to Jesse to maintain the illusion that he and Karla were not using theirs. If he said he needed it, Jesse would know Karla would play hers, and Cody's plan to vote her out falls apart. He backed himself into a corner and I think he just didn't have time to think up a new plan, so he went with what he had. He also really trusted Jesse, and wasn't worried at all that he was a target. "9.5 Confident, Jeff."

I knew he was getting blind sided when the edit had him saying "this will be the biggest blind side of the season".. the producers just love to do that kind of stuff lol
Big play by Jessie, really sucks for Cody, but you can't really argue with how well that was orchestrated.
Honestly with that play I'm not even worried about Carla, how did you outplay her Jessie? I flushed her idol at 6 and completely fooled her with the biggest blindside of the season. Game.
Cassidy is the bigger threat IMO, get her out at 5, Jessie can easily beat Carla at the final tribal.
Jessie is the kind of player who can only win once, because he better be voted out first if he ever makes it back on to the island, lol. Unreal play from him. He better get to the end or ill flip my coffee table.

Agreed, he should definitely target Cassidy next round
Another reason for keeping Karla would be fire making, if her hands are messed up like in that puzzle, it could happen if shes making fire
Are you f'ing kidding me? The guy who rode coattails and got dragged to the finale as an easy beat...wins. The only thing he did was make fire. What a joke of a jury.
I did like the look on Jeanine's face when her idol appeared, though I thought that Jesse should have held that until after the voting was done. Would have had some huge impact.
Did Mike "Gabler" Gabler just win Survivor? Is that something that just happened? Or did I dream it, kind of like that time I dreamed CBS once forced producers to create an entire Gulliver's Travels challenge to promote a terrible new Jack Black movie. People try to mess with me by insisting that really happened, but I know better. No one would actually put that on national television.
And Gabler didn't just WIN Survivor, he almostplayed a perfect game! He did not have a single vote cast against him all season and then was one vote away from a unanimous victory, winning 7-1-0. GABLER!!!!! To be clear, we're not talking about Jesse. We're talking about GABLER!!!
How did this happen? Instead of LIVIN', did he have a Medallion of Power tattooed on his right ass cheek? Did he employ the services of noted jury whisperer Tata the Bushman to seal the deal? Is the AlliGabler some sort of secret superhero double identity that allows him to not only "hide in plain sight," but to also conjure fire on demand and hypnotize jury members on a whim?
Congrats to surferguy who ordered the double double on Mike Gabler and takes the whole enchilada! A first in CP Survivor history!
So....do we think Mike will live up to his word on donating the whole million bucks?

Goes to show, it doesn’t matter what you actually did during the game if the jury is just looking for you to say certain things during the Q&A. Liked the season, disliked the jury.

It is always interesting what the jury rewards. Cass should have said immediately that she thinks jury's sometimes put too much weight in the final fire challenge, and that it didn't weigh into her decision much. She wanted Jesse gone, and chose who she thought would be the best person for that(and was right!). By leaning into the "fire making means they achieved something great" she missed the opportunity to nullify Gabler's success at it.
It was also tougher to play up the immunity wins, since 2 of them had 3, but her and Owen didn't play that card enough. I think they really just expected the Jury to recognize his coasting more than they did. I also think some of them were just bitter, and Gabler didn't have to burn them to get where he was.

To this point, and from the article Cheese posted up above, a point I hadn't really considered until I saw it printed out:
Spoiler!
The victory meant that both Cassidy and Owen each won three individual immunities. To which the jury once again said… so what? BROKEN RECORD ALERT for those who have been around for a while, and NEWSFLASH to those who are new to the recap: Survivor juries don't care about challenge wins. They just don't. And if you don't believe me, go ask Chrissy Hofbeck about it. Or Brad Culpepper. Or Colby Donaldson. Or plenty of others like… oh, I don't know… Owen and Cassidy, who just combined for 1 total vote against Gabler's 7.
I've presented a theory on this before, and the theory is that juries care much more about idol and advantage plays than challenge wins because while idol plays are big and surprising and dramatic and happen right in front of the jury, early jury members don't even get to see the challenges. All they see is someone walk in with a necklace. None of them — as spectators — got to watch Cassidy persevering to win that final contest. They didn't get to watch Owen overcome Karla's advantage (and then flex his muscles super awkwardly) to take that final five competition. So it doesn't really register. At least not as much as other factors.
I'm not even necessarily arguing that players should value comp wins more; I'm just pointing out that they don't. This is not a complaint, just an observation. Obviously, challenge wins are important for a little thing called immunity, but in terms of being résumé builders, they just aren't.
